- 4. A vehicle structure as in claim 1, wherein said conductive bus serves as a data communication bus.
- 5. In an automotive vehicle structure, a plurality of elongated slots being formed into interior portions of said structure into which device locking mechanisms are inserted to provide adjustable and removable rigid connections of said devices to said structure, wherein each slot opening communicates with a corresponding internal cavity beneath an interior surface portion of the vehicle, said cavity runs continuously with said slot opening and has walls formed by the vehicle structure against which said locking mechanism can obtain a locking connection between said device and said vehicle.
- 6. A vehicle structure as in claim 5, wherein said conductive bus is connected to the vehicle power supply.
- 7. A vehicle structure as in claim 6, wherein said cavity also contains at least one conductive bus providing electrical ground internal to said slot.
- 8. A vehicle structure as in claim 5, wherein said conductive bus also serves as a data communication bus.
- 9. A coupling system for attaching a device to a vehicle at a plurality of locations within the interior of said vehicle, including a plurality of elongated slot openings formed into the structure of said vehicle and into which a coupling portion of said device can be inserted and locked in place at a location that is desired by the user, wherein said device becomes equally operational at any location.
- 10. A system, as in claim 9, wherein said plurality of slot openings formed throughout the vehicle allows for the attaching of a plurality of devices at several locations.
- 11. A system, as in claim 9, wherein each slot opening is through an interior surface of the vehicle and extends to a cavity portion that is beneath said surface, and said cavity portion contains walls of predetermined dimensions.
- 12. A system, as in claim 11, wherein said coupling portion of said device contains locking elements which are activated to apply a frictional pressure to at least one wall and thereby lock said device in place.
- 13. A system, as in claim 12, wherein said cavity portion contains at least one conductive element disposed along a wall and at least one of said locking elements has an electrical contact to provide a connection to said conductive element when said device is locked in place.
- 14. A system, as in claim 11, wherein said cavity portion contains at least one conductive element that is an electrical power bus and at least one conductive element that is an electrical ground.
- 15. A system, as in claim 14, wherein said electrical power bus and said electrical ground are disposed on walls that are on opposite sides of said slot opening.
- 16. A system, as in claim 14, wherein said electrical power bus and said electrical ground are disposed on walls that are in opposition to each other.
- 17. A coupling component for providing a removable lockable attachment between a device and the structure of a vehicle, wherein said vehicle includes at least one slot opening formed into the structure of said vehicle and said component comprises:
a first element that is insertable into said slot at a user designated location; a second element that provides a locking connection between said first element and said structure; and a third element connected between said first and second elements that is adjustable to lock said second element in a position to provide said locking connection.
- 18. A coupling component, as in claim 17, wherein said third element also is adjustable to unlock said second element from its locking connection position.
- 19. A coupling component, as in claim 17, wherein said second element contains at least one electrical contact that is electrically connected to said device, and said third element causes said electrical contact to become compressed against a corresponding electrical contact within said slot when said second element is locked in a position to provide said locking connection.
- 20. A coupling component as in claim 17, wherein said second element comprises a plurality of legs that are extendable from the first element when actuated by adjustment of said third element to provide said lock function.
- 21. A coupling component as in claim 20, wherein said legs are retractable into said first element when actuated by adjustment of said third element to release said lock function. 22. A coupling component as in claim 17, wherein said first element has portions that limit the extent of insertion into the slot opening, said second element is fully insertable into said slot opening, said third element allows said second element to be rotated cross-ways to said slot opening; and said third element is adjustable to compress said first and second elements against said structure to provide said locking connection.
- 23. A coupling component as in claim 22, wherein said first and second elements contain corresponding alignment pins and apertures to assure proper cross-ways orientation prior to adjustment of said third element.
- 24. A coupling component as in claim 23, wherein said alignment pins and apertures provide electrical connection between said first and second elements.
- 25. A coupling component as in claim 19, wherein said first element has portions that limit the extent of insertion into the slot opening, said second element is fully insertable into said slot opening, said third element allows said second element to be rotated cross-ways to said slot opening; and said third element is adjustable to compress said first and second elements against said structure to provide said locking connection.
- 26. A coupling component as in claim 25, wherein said first and second elements contain corresponding alignment pins and apertures to assure proper cross-ways orientation prior to adjustment of said third element.
- 27. A coupling component as in claim 26, wherein said alignment pins and apertures provide electrical connection between said first and second elements.
