- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second device operates in the first state when the first device is reading or writing data to the data storage disk, and wherein the second device operates in the second state when the first device is not reading or writing data to the data storage disk.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second device is rotatably mounted to the base, wherein the second device is rotatable between first and second positions, wherein the second device operates in the first state when the second device is in the first position, and wherein the second device operates in the second state when the second device is in the second position.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the second device engages the first device to inhibit movement thereof when the second device is in the second position.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the first device comprises a frame, the frame comprising a first portion rotatably connected to a second portion at a first end thereof, wherein the second portion comprises a second end positioned opposite the first end, wherein the second end is positioned between and engaging both the second device and the base when the second device is in the second position.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first device is configured to optically read or write data to the data storage disk.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 3 further comprising:
a steel plate mounted to the base; wherein the second device comprises a permanent magnet, wherein the permanent magnet interacts with the steel plate to move the second device from the first position to the second position.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7 further comprising a wire coil mounted to the base, wherein the wire coil is configured to receive electrical current, wherein an electromagnetic field is generated in response to the wire coil receiving the electrical current, wherein the electromagnetic field interacts with the permanent magnet to move the second device from the first position to the second position.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 3 further comprising a plate fixedly mounted to the base, wherein a portion of the first device is configured to move between the plate and the base, wherein the portion of the first device engages both the base and the second device when the second device is in the second position, and wherein the second device engages the plate when the second device is in the second position.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the second device comprises an arm extending between first and second ends, a pivot pin extending through the arm between the first and second ends thereof, and a wedge connected to the second end, wherein the pivot pin rotatably mounts the second device to the base, and wherein the wedge engages the first device when the second device is in the second position.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein the second device further comprises a counterweight connected to the first end, wherein the counterweight operates to balance the second device as the second device rotates on the base.
- 12. An apparatus comprising:
a base; a first means for reading or writing data to a data storage disk, wherein the first means is rotatably mounted to the base; a second means mounted to the base, wherein the second means operates between first and second states, wherein the first means is capable of movement with respect to the base when the second means operates in the first state, and wherein the second means inhibits movement of the first means with respect to the base when the second means operates in the second state.
- 13. An apparatus comprising:
a base; a first means for reading or writing data to a data storage disk, wherein the first means comprises a first pin, and wherein the first means is rotatably mounted to the base via the first pin; a second means for selectively inhibiting movement of the first means with respect to the base, wherein the second means comprises a second pin, wherein the second means is rotatably mounted to the base via the second pin, wherein the second means rotates between first and second positions, wherein the first means is capable of movement with respect to the base when the second means is in the first position, and wherein the second means inhibits movement of the first means with respect to the base when the second means is in the second position.
- 14. A method comprising:
a first device rotatably mounted to a base, the first device reading or writing data to data storage disk positioned adjacent to the first device; a second device movably mounted to the base, the second device moving from a first position to a second position; the second device inhibiting movement of the first device while the second device is in the second position.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the second device is rotatably mounted to the base.
- 16. The method of claim 14 wherein the second device engages the first device to inhibit movement thereof while the second device is in the second position.
- 17. The method of claim 14 further comprising a permanent magnet of the second device interacting with an electromagnet mounted to the base while the second device moves from the second position to the first position.
- 18. The method of claim 14 further comprising a portion of first device moving between the base and a plate fixedly mounted to the base, wherein the portion of first device moves between the base and the plate before the second device moves to the second position, wherein the portion of the first device engages both the base and the second device when the second device is in the second position, and wherein the second device engages the plate when the second device is in the second position.
- 19. The method of claim 14 wherein the second device comprises an arm extending between first and second ends, a pivot pin extending through the arm between the first and second ends thereof, and a wedge connected to the second end, wherein the pivot pin rotatably mounts the second device to the base, and wherein the wedge engages the first device when the second device is in the second position.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein the second device further comprises a counterweight connected to the first end, wherein the counterweight balances the second device as the second device rotates on the base.
