Claims
- 1. A media bed support grid for use with a vessel having an inner surface, the media bed support grid comprising a plurality of filter panels, each filter panel having a plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires, a plurality of channels underlying and positioned substantially perpendicular to the filter wires, and a manifold, the manifold being coupled to and in fluid communication with the channels and the plurality of filter wires forming a filtering surface.
- 2. The media bed support grid of claim 1, wherein the channels form a bottom surface of the support grid opposite and substantially parallel to the filtering surface, and the bottom surface lies adjacent to the inner surface of the vessel.
- 3. The media bed support grid of claim 1, wherein the manifold has a plurality of openings, and the openings define flow paths between the manifold and the channels.
- 4. The media bed support grid of claim 3, wherein the openings are of various sizes.
- 5. The media bed support grid of claim 4, further comprising a perimeter and wherein at least one opening positioned away from the perimeter is smaller than at least one opening positioned towards the perimeter.
- 6. The media bed support grid of claim 1, further comprising a central collector sealingly coupled to the panels.
- 7. The media bed support grid of claim 6, wherein the central collector has a cover, the cover comprising a second plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires.
- 8. The media bed support grid of claim 1, wherein at least one channel includes a flow distribution surface that divides the channel into first and second chambers, and wherein the flow distribution surface includes a plurality of orifices defining flow paths between the first and second chambers.
- 9. The media bed support grid of claim 1, wherein the filter panel has an outer edge, and wherein the manifold is positioned parallel to the filter wires and opposite the outer edge, and further comprising a bar sealingly welded to the outer edge, thereby sealing the filter panel at the outer edge.
- 10. The media bed support grid of claim 9, wherein the bar is sealingly welded to a second bar, the second bar being welded to the filter wires.
- 11. A media bed support grid for use with a vessel having an inner surface, the media bed support grid comprising a filter panel, the filter panel having a plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires, a plurality of channels underlying the filter wires and positioned adjacent to the inner surface of the vessel, and a manifold, the manifold being coupled to and in fluid communication with the channels and the plurality of filter wires forming a filtering surface.
- 12. The media bed support grid of claim 11, wherein the manifold is positioned substantially perpendicular to the filter wires, and further comprising a plurality of openings, the openings defining flow paths between the manifold and the channels.
- 13. The media bed support grid of claim 12, wherein the openings are of various sizes.
- 14. The media bed support grid of claim 13, further comprising a perimeter and wherein at least one opening positioned away from the perimeter is smaller than at least one opening positioned towards the perimeter.
- 15. The media bed support grid of claim 11, further comprising a central collector sealingly coupled to the panels.
- 16. The media bed support grid of claim 15, wherein the central collector has a cover, the cover comprising a second plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires.
- 17. The media bed support grid of claim 11, wherein at least one channel includes a flow distribution surface that divides the channel into first and second chambers, and wherein the flow distribution surface includes a plurality of orifices defining flow paths between the first and second chambers.
- 18. The media bed support grid of claim 11, wherein the filter panel has an outer edge, and wherein the manifold is positioned parallel to the filter wires and opposite the outer edge, and further comprising a bar sealingly welded to the outer edge, thereby sealing the filter panel at the outer edge.
- 19. The media bed support grid of claim 19, wherein the bar is a first bar, the first bar sealingly welded to a second bar, the second bar also welded to the filter wires.
- 20. A media bed support grid comprising a plurality of channels supporting a filter panel, the filter panel having a bar, the channels and the filter panel having an edge, and the bar sealing the channels and the filter panel at the edge.
- 21. The media bed support grid of claim 20, wherein the channels have a plurality of openings, the openings are of various sizes.
- 22. The media bed support grid of claim 21, wherein the filter panel has a perimeter and at least one opening positioned away from the perimeter is smaller than at least one opening positioned towards the perimeter.
- 23. The media bed support grid of claim 20, further comprising a central collector being sealingly coupled to the panels.
- 24. The media bed support grid of claim 23, wherein the central collector has a cover, the cover comprising a plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires.
- 25. The media bed support grid of claim 20, wherein at least one channel includes a flow distribution surface that divides the channel into first and second chambers, and wherein the flow distribution surface includes a plurality of orifices defining flow paths between the first and second chambers.
- 26. The media bed support grid of claim 20, wherein the bar is sealingly welded to a second bar, the second bar being welded to the filter panel.
- 27. A filter panel comprising a plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires, a manifold, and a plurality of channels underlying the filter wires, the manifold including a plurality of openings defining flow paths between the manifold and the channels.
- 28. The filter panel of claim 27, wherein the openings are of various sizes.
- 29. The filter panel of claim 28, further comprising a perimeter and wherein at least one opening positioned away from the perimeter is smaller than at least one opening positioned towards the perimeter.
- 30. The filter panel of claim 27, wherein at least one channel includes a flow distribution surface that divides the channel into first and second chambers, and wherein the flow distribution surface includes a plurality of orifices defining flow paths between the first and second chambers.
- 31. The filter panel of claim 27, further comprising a first bar and a second bar, wherein the first bar is sealingly welded to the second bar, and the second bar is also welded to the filter wires.
- 32. A media bed support grid for use with a vessel having a head, and the head having an inner surface, the media bed support grid comprising a plurality of filter panels, each filter panel having an outer edge, a plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires, a plurality of channels, a manifold, and a bar, the plurality of filter wires forming a filtering surface, the plurality of channels underlying and positioned substantially perpendicular to the filter wires, the channels forming a bottom surface of the support grid opposite and substantially parallel to the filtering surface, the bottom surface positioned to lie adjacent to the inner surface of the vessel, the manifold being positioned parallel to the filter wires and opposite the outer edge, the manifold also having a plurality of openings, the openings defining flow paths between the manifold and the channels, and the bar sealingly welded to the filter panel at the outer edge, thereby sealing the filter panel at the outer edge.
- 33. The media bed support grid assembly of claim 31, wherein the openings are of various sizes.
- 34. The media bed support grid of claim 33, further comprising a perimeter and wherein at least one opening positioned away from the perimeter is smaller than at least one opening positioned towards the perimeter.
- 35. The media bed support grid of claim 32, further comprising a central collector being sealingly coupled to the panels.
- 36. The media bed support grid of claim 35, wherein the central collector has a cover, the cover further comprising a second plurality of parallel and spaced-apart filter wires.
- 37. The media bed support grid of claim 32, wherein at least one channel includes a flow distribution surface that divides the channel into first and second chambers, and wherein the flow distribution surface includes a plurality of orifices defining flow paths between the first and second chambers.
- 38. The media bed support grid of claim 32, wherein the bar sealingly welded to a second bar, the second bar being welded to the filter wires.
