Claims
- 1. A method for displaying a multimedia conference comprising:
determining a policy, the policy including rules for managing one or more roles; and displaying selected ones of the plurality of data signals that have labels corresponding to the one or more roles according to the rules of the policy.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:
providing a plurality of displays at a terminal; and applying a different policy for each of the plurality of displays.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the policy further includes rules for a manner of displaying the selected ones of the plurality of data signals according to the roles associated with the plurality of data signals.
- 4. A data signal embodied on a multimedia conferencing carrier signal, the data signal comprising:
a media stream, the media stream being generated by a media source within a multimedia conference; and a label for the media stream, the label including a role, the role being indicative of a purpose of the media stream in the multimedia conference.
- 5. The data signal of claim 4 wherein the role is hierarchically defined.
- 6. The data signal of claim 4 wherein the role is one of a people role and a content role, the people role designating participants in the multimedia conference, and the content role designating subject matter under discussion in the multimedia conference.
- 7. A multimedia conferencing terminal comprising:
a media source, the media source providing a data signal; a stream labeling unit, the stream labeling unit configured to receive the data signal, and further configured to label the data signal according to a role, the role being indicative of a purpose of the media source in a multimedia conference, whereby the stream labeling unit provides a labeled stream; a network connection, the network connection configured to receive the labeled stream, and to provide the labeled stream to a network.
