Claims
- 1. A low profile printer, comprising:a media cassette having an input tray and an output tray movable with respect to said input tray; and said output tray having a substantially planar base with a series of upstanding wedge members disposed on a rear portion thereof; said wedge members having a sufficient height for engaging a front wall portion of said media cassette to frictionally hold said output tray in a extended postion relative to said input tray.
- 2. A low profile printer according to claim 1, wherein said output tray has a unitary construction.
- 3. A low profile printer according to claim 1, wherein said wedges enable said output tray to be held in a fully extended position at an angle to the horizontal of about zero degrees to about two degrees.
- 4. A low profile printer according to claim 3, wherein a more preferred angle to the horizontal is about one degree to about two degrees.
- 5. A low profile printer according to claim 4, wherein a most preferred angle to the horizontal is about two degrees.
- 6. A low profile printer according to claim 1, wherein said output tray is sufficiently large to hold A size and A4 size media.
- 7. A low profile printer according to claim 1, wherein said output tray can be telescopically extended and retracted from the interior of the cassette.
- 8. A low profile printer according to claim 7, wherein said input tray remains stationary when said output tray is telescopically extended and retracted from the interior of the cassette.
- 9. A low profile printer according to claim 1, wherein said wedge members interlock with said front wall portion at about the end of the path of travel followed by the output tray allowing the output tray to freely travel through most of its motion and yet tilt at an angle to the horizontal of between about zero degrees and about two degrees at the end of its travel motion to facilitate the capture and holding of individual sheets of output media discharged from the printer.
- 10. A low profile printer according to claim 1, wherein the printer has height, width and depth dimensions substantially corresponding to a stackable home entertainment center electronic device.
- 11. A low profile printer, comprising:a media cassette having an input tray and an output tray with a top surface; a support mounted to said media cassette for holding said output tray in a substantially horizontal plane when said output tray is extended outwardly from the cassette a sufficient distance to support from below individual sheets of media discharged from the printer; wherein said output tray has a unitary construction; and wherein said support includes at least one set of spaced apart wedges disposed at a rear portion of said top surface, and wherein individual ones of said wedges interlock with a part of the cassette at about the end of the path of travel followed by the output tray allowing the output tray to freely travel through most of its motion and yet tilt at an angle to the horizontal of between about zero degrees and about two degrees at the end of its travel motion to facilitate the capture and holding of the individual sheets of output media.
- 12. A low profile printer according to claim 11, wherein said support holds said output tray at an angle to the horizontal of about zero degrees to about two degrees.
- 13. A low profile printer according to claim 12, wherein a more preferred angle to the horizontal is about one degree to about two degrees.
- 14. A low profile printer according to claim 13, wherein a most preferred angle to the horizontal is about two degrees.
- 15. A low profile printer according to claim 12, wherein said output tray is sufficiently large to hold A size and A4 size media.
- 16. A low profile printer according to claim 11, wherein said output tray can be telescopically extended and retracted from the interior of the cassette.
- 17. A low profile printer according to claim 11, wherein the printer has height, width and depth dimensions substantially corresponding to a stackable home entertainment center electronic device.
- 18. A low profile printer having height, width and depth dimensions substantially corresponding to a stackable home entertainment center electronic device, comprising:a base having a box-like configuration; a cassette assembly slidably mounted within said base, said cassette assembly having an input tray, and an output tray; a pick roller assembly mounted to said base at about a rear portion for retrieving individual sheets of media stacked in said input tray; a drive roller assembly mounted to said base at about a front portion for pulling individual ones of the retrieved sheets of media through a print zone and for discharging them in seriatim in an output tray forming part of the cassette assembly; and an output tray support mounted to said cassette assembly for holding said output tray in a substantially horizontal plane when the output tray is extended outwardly from the cassette a sufficient distance to support from below the individual sheets discharged by said drive roller assembly.
- 19. A method of holding individual sheets of output media discharged from a low profile printer, comprising:inserting a media cassette into the printer, said media cassette having an input tray and an output tray; holding said input tray in a stationary position; and telescopically extending said output tray from below said input tray a sufficient distance to engage a set of wedge members disposed on said output tray with a front wall portion of said media cassette to frictionally hold said output tray in an extended position.
- 20. A method of holding individual sheets of output media according to claim 19, wherein said output tray is held in engagement with said front wall portion so that the output tray remains in a substantially horizontal plane at the end of its path of travel.
- 21. A method of holding individual sheets of output media according to claim 20, wherein said output tray is held at an angle to the horizontal of between about zero degrees and about two degrees so discharged output media are supported from below by said output tray without slipping off said output tray.
