Claims
- 1. A multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy to an intubated patient comprising:
- an internally hollow main body comprising a distal part defining a distal respiratory flow path and a hollow proximal part defining at least one proximal respiratory flow path, each of the distal part and the proximal part having at least one annular slot having a distal opening;
- a first sleeve disposed in and rotatable within the distal part about the circumference of the sleeve, the sleeve having at least one prong disposed at a distal end thereof, the at least one prong being configured to nest within the at least one annular slot so as to form an annular hermetic seal; and
- a second sleeve disposed in and rotatable within the proximal part about the circumference of the sleeve, the sleeve having at least one prong disposed at an end thereof, the at least one prong being configured to nest within the at least one annular slot so as to form an annular hermetic seal.
- 2. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 1, wherein at least one of the distal and proximal parts have concentric annular slots formed therein, and wherein at least one of the first and second sleeves has concentric annular prongs formed at one end thereof and nestable within the concentric annular slots to form a hermetic.
- 3. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 2, wherein at least one of the prongs is continuously radially deflected when nested within one of the annular slots.
- 4. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 2, wherein the concentric annular prongs are spaced apart, and wherein the concentric annular slots are spaced apart a distance greater than the concentric annular prongs.
- 5. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 1, wherein the distal part of the main body has a pair of annular slots formed therein, and wherein the first sleeve has a pair of prongs disposed thereon, the prongs being configured for nesting in the annular slots of the distal part of the main body.
- 6. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 5, wherein the annular slots are and configured to cause at least one of the prongs to radially deflect when the prongs are nested in the annular slots.
- 7. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 6, wherein the prongs of the pair of prongs are spaced apart from each other a distance and wherein the annular slots are spaced apart from one another a distance different than the pair of prongs, to thereby cause at least one of the prongs to deflect radially when the prongs are disposed in the annular slots.
- 8. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 7, wherein one of the prongs of the pair of prongs is deflected radially inwardly and wherein the other is deflected radially outwardly.
- 9. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 1, wherein the proximal part of the main body has a pair of annular slots, and wherein the second sleeve has a pair of annular prongs configured to nest within the annular slots of the proximal part.
- 10. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 9, wherein at least one of the prongs is radially deflected when nested within a corresponding annular slot.
- 11. The multi-port fitting for administering respiratory therapy of claim 10, wherein one of the pair of prongs is deflected radially outwardly and wherein the other is deflected radially inwardly.
- 12. A closed system respiratory adapter comprising:
- a fitting defining a distal female receptacle defining a distal port and a proximal female receptacle defining a proximal port, each of the distal and proximal ports having at least one annular slot formed therein and at least one of the distal and proximal ports having two annular slots;
- a first sleeve disposed in one of the distal and proximal ports, the first sleeve comprising a pair of prongs configured for nesting in the two annular slots so as to form a double seal against entry of atmosphere across the prongs and slots when the prongs are nested in the slots.
- 13. The closed system respiratory adapter of claim 12, wherein the first sleeve is disposed in the distal port, and wherein a second sleeve is disposed in the proximal port, the second sleeve having at least one prong which nests in the at least one annular slot in the proximal port.
- 14. The closed system respiratory adapter of claim 13, wherein the proximal port has two annular slots and wherein the second sleeve has two annular prongs which nest in the two annular slots.
- 15. The closed system respiratory adapter of claim 14, wherein at least one of the prongs of the first sleeve and one of the prongs of the second sleeve is radially deflected when disposed in a corresponding annular slot.
- 16. The closed system respiratory adapter of claim 14, wherein at least one of the first and second sleeves has one prong deflected radially inwardly and another prong deflected radially outwardly.
- 17. A swivel fitting for attachment to a patient intubation tube, the fitting comprising:
- a distal port having a pair of annular slots formed therein;
- a first sleeve disposed in the distal port, the first sleeve having a pair of prongs disposed in the annular slots so as to form a double seal;
- a proximal port having a pair of annular slots formed therein; and
- a second sleeve disposed in the proximal port, the second sleeve having a pair of prongs disposed in the annular slots of the proximal port to form a double seal.
- 18. The fitting of claim 17, wherein at least one of the prongs of the first sleeve and one of the prongs of the second sleeve is radially deflected.
- 19. The fitting of claim 17, wherein the annular slots of the distal port are spaced apart further than the prongs of the first sleeve, and wherein the annular slots of the proximal port are spaced apart further than the prongs of the second sleeve.
- 20. The fitting of claim 17, further comprising at least one rib for holding the first sleeve in the distal port.
