Claims
- 1. A packaged medical electrode for use with an electromedical device comprising:
- a base layer;
- a gel layer disposed on the base layer;
- a snap type connector attached to the base layer; and
- a package encompassing at least the gel layer, the package comprising first and second contacts disposed at predetermined locations wherein the first contact is electrically connected to the gel layer and the second contact is electrically connected to the snap type connector.
- 2. The packaged electrode of claim 1 wherein the base layer is nonconductive.
- 3. The packaged electrode of claim 1 wherein the gel layer is a conductive, semi-liquid gel layer disposed on a first side of a base layer.
- 4. The packaged electrode of claim 1 wherein the package is substantially gas impermeable.
- 5. The packaged electrode as in claim 1 wherein the snap type connector has a connection member adapted for connection to an electrical lead and a current dispersion member in contact with the gel layer.
- 6. The packaged electrode as in claim 1 wherein the package encompasses the base layer, the gel layer and the snap type connector.
- 7. The packaged electrode as in claim 1 wherein the package comprises a first and second layer connected together.
- 8. The packaged electrode as in claim 7 wherein the second layer of the package and the base layer are integrally formed.
- 9. The packaged electrode as in claim 1 wherein a portion of the snap type connector protrudes through a hole in the package.
- 10. A sealed package medical electrode for use with an electromedical device comprising:
- a nonconductive base layer having a first and second side;
- a conductive gel layer disposed on the first side of the base layer;
- a snap type connector mounted to the base layer wherein the snap type connector has a connection member projecting through the base layer and a current dispersion layer in contact with the gel layer;
- an envelope arranged to form an interior cavity wherein the current dispersion member lies in the interior cavity and the connection member projects from the interior to a point exterior the envelope; and
- a test lead electrically connected to the gel layer and extending outside of the interior cavity.
- 11. The packaged electrode of claim 10 wherein the envelope comprises a top layer releasably adhered to the base layer.
- 12. The packaged electrode as in claim 11 wherein the top layer is in releasable contact with the gel layer.
- 13. The packaged electrode as in claim 10 further comprising a lead electrically connected to the snap type connector.
- 14. The packaged electrode as in claim 13 wherein the lead is configured to receive the connection member of the snap type connector.
- 15. The packaged electrode as in claim 10 wherein the conductive gel layer is comprised of a semi-liquid material.
- 16. A packaged medical electrode for use with an electromedical device comprising:
- base means;
- patient interface means for providing electrical current to a patient wherein the patient interface means is mounted on the base means;
- snap connector means connected to the patient interface means for electrically connecting the electrode to a source of electrical energy; and
- package means for encompassing the electrode comprising first and second contact means disposed at predetermined locations wherein the first contact means is electrically connected to the patient interface means and the second contact means is electrically connected to the snap connector means.
- 17. The packaged electrode as in claim 16 wherein the base means is a nonconductive base layer.
- 18. The packaged electrode as in claim 16 wherein the patient interface means comprises a conductive gel layer.
- 19. The packaged electrode as in claim 16 wherein the package means comprises an envelope arranged to form an interior cavity for encompassing at least the patient interface means.
