Claims
- 1. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the steps of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane supplied in roll form such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane;wherein said steps of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers comprise a step of application of a catalyst layer in a patch-wise fashion from a continuous roll carrier holding the catalyst in the desired pattern; wherein said step of application of a catalyst layer in a patch-wise fashion is followed by a step of applying electrode backing layers in registry with said catalyst layers in patch-wise fashion.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 additionally comprising the step of applying a seal or gasket to said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 additionally comprising the step of punching holes in said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 4. The method according to claim 1 additionally comprising the step of applying registration marks on said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 5. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane additionally comprising the step of applying a seal or gasket to said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 6. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane; wherein said web of ion conduction membrane is supplied in roll form; additionally comprising the step of applying a seal or gasket to said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 7. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane; wherein said web of ion conduction membrane is supplied in roll form; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises continuous roll processing; additionally comprising the step of applying a seal or gasket to said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 8. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane; wherein said web of ion conduction membrane is supplied in roll form; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises continuous roll processing; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises sequential application catalyst layers followed by application of electrode backing layers; additionally comprising the step of applying a seal or gasket to said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 9. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane; wherein said web of ion conduction membrane is supplied in roll form; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises continuous roll processing; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises application of a catalyst layer to an electrode backing layer followed by application of said electrode backing layer to said web of ion conduction membrane; additionally comprising the step of applying a seal or gasket to said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 10. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane additionally comprising the step of punching holes said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 11. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, comprising the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane; wherein said web of ion conduction membrane is supplied in roll form; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises continuous roll processing; additionally comprising the step of punching holes in said web of ion conduction membrane.
- 12. A method of producing a plurality of 5-layer MEAs, composing the step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to a web of ion conduction membrane such that a plurality of 5-layer MEAs can be cut from said web of ion conduction membrane; wherein said web of ion conduction membrane is supplied in roll form; wherein said step of applying catalyst layers and electrode backing layers to said web of ion conduction membrane comprises continuous roll processing; additionally comprising the step of applying registration marks on said web of ion conduction membrane.
