The present invention relates generally to memorial devices, and more particularly to a memorial candle holder which can be customized for any number of different occasions.

Life events such as weddings, baptisms, bah mitzvah's and funerals, for example, are often memorialized with commemorative items such as photographs and documents marking the occasion. In many instances, these items are placed within protective enclosures such as picture frames or photo albums, for example, and are only viewed from time to time. In some cultures, it is customary to light and display candles in remembrance of loved ones, or to mark special occasions.
With this in mind, it would be beneficial to provide a memorial candle holder device which can function to display and highlight commemorative items while providing a stable platform for a candle or other such illuminated object.
The present invention is directed to a memorial candle holder. One embodiment of the present invention can include a generally hollow main body having one or more commemorative item holders secured thereon. The main body can be translucent in nature, and the commemorative item holders can include a transparent section. A removable base unit can include a illumination device that is positionable within the hollow section of the main body, and can provide illumination to the body and commemorative item holder. A candle holder opening can be positioned along the top of the main body and can receive a candle holder.
Another embodiment of the present invention can include one or more decorative lights that are positioned along one or both of the main body and the base unit.
Yet another embodiment of the present invention can include one or more audio players that are positioned along one or both of the main body and the base unit.

As described herein, the terms “connector,” “complementary connector” and derivatives thereof can include any number of different elements capable of repeatedly securing two items together in a nonpermanent manner. Several nonlimiting examples include opposing strips of hook and loop material (i.e. Velcro®), magnetic elements, tethers such as straps and ties, and compression fittings such as hooks, snaps, buttons and threaded elements designed to engage via a twisting motion, for example. Each illustrated connector can be permanently secured to, or incorporated into the design of, the illustrated portion of the device via known manufacturing techniques, a permanent sealer such as glue, adhesive tape, or stitching, for example.

The main body can further include an unlimited amount of decorative elements 26 that include, for example, various colors, markings, words, shapes, symbols, logos, designs, texturing of materials, and/or patterns. These decorative elements can be inlaid onto the main body 20 or can be raised/protruding outward from the main body 20, so as to give a three dimensional effect.

In the preferred embodiment, each of the lip/edge sections can preferably be constructed from a substantially identical material as the main body 20, and the back section 32 can be constructed from clear plastic. Of course, any number of other suitable materials are also contemplated.
In another embodiment, one or more item connectors 33 such as double sided tape, for example, can be provided onto the back section 32 to further secure a commemorative item within the holder 30. Double sided tape is particularly advantageous in this embodiment, as the clear nature of the tape will not impede light passing through the back section.

In another embodiment, an audio device 55 such as an MP3 player, or other such voice recorder can be provided onto the main body and/or the base unit so as to allow a user to load a stored voice message or favorite song from a loved one. Digital media players such as an MP3 player are extremely well known in the art.
Although described or illustrated with regard to a particular shape and/or construction material, this is for illustrative purposes only, as the main body 20 and the base unit 40 can be constructed from any number of suitable materials, can include any number of different shapes. Moreover, by utilizing connectors and complementary connectors, the base unit 40 and main body 20 can be interchangeable in nature, so as to allow a user to change the appearance of the device.
In operation, a user can position any number of commemorative items on the commemorative item holders, and can activate the illumination device. When activated, the illumination device can function to fully illuminate the inserted commemorative item, and to partially illuminate the main body and/or any objects 27. Moreover, the light can also extend upward through the candle holder opening when no candle is inserted, thus giving the effect of candle light. This can also be accomplished when utilized with a candle holder that is constructed from glass or other such transparent materials.
As described herein, one or more elements of the memorial candle holder device 10 can be secured together utilizing any number of known attachment means such as, for example, screws, glue, compression fittings and welds, among others. Moreover, although the above embodiments have been described as including separate individual elements, the inventive concepts disclosed herein are not so limiting. To this end, one of skill in the art will recognize that any number of different individual elements may be formed together as one continuous element, either through manufacturing processes, such as welding, casting, or molding, or through the use of a singular piece of material milled or machined with the aforementioned components forming identifiable sections thereof.
