Claims
- 1. A memory member usable with an electrophotographic image forming apparatus including a main assembly which is provided with a main assembly antenna and an antenna cover covering the main assembly antenna, said memory member comprising:a base; a storing element, provided in said base, for storing information; a memory antenna, provided in said base, for sending the information stored in said storing element to the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein said memory antenna is disposed on a front side of said base, and said storing element is disposed on a back side of said base, wherein the front side of said base is a side opposed to the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein there is a gap between said memory antenna and the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus; a sending member, provided in said base, for sending the information stored in said storing element to said memory antenna; and an abutting portion for abutting the antenna cover to regulate the gap between said memory antenna and the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly.
- 2. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein said memory member is provided with a portion to be mounted on a frame of a process cartridge, wherein the process cartridge contains an electrophotographic photosensitive member and process means actable thereon as a unit which is detachably mountable to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus,wherein the process means includes at least one of developing means for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, charging means for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and cleaning means for removing a residual developer remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, wherein said memory member is mounted to the process cartridge by said portion to be mounted being mounted on the frame of the process cartridge, and wherein by mounting the process cartridge to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus.
- 3. A memory member according to claim 2, wherein said portion to be mounted is mounted into the frame of the process cartridge by a double sided tape, a bonding material, heat-cramping, or fusing.
- 4. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein said memory member is provided with a portion to be mounted on a frame of a unit, wherein the unit accommodates a developer to be used for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on an electrophotographic photosensitive member and is detachably mountable to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, and wherein said memory member is mounted to the unit by said portion to be mounted being mounted on the frame of the unit, and wherein by mounting the unit to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus.
- 5. A memory member according to claim 4, wherein the unit has a developing roller for developing the electrostatic latent image with the developer.
- 6. A memory member according to claim 4 or 5, wherein said portion to be mounted is mounted to the frame of the unit by a bonding material.
- 7. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein said abutting portion is a part of an outer casing covering said base, said storing element, said sending member, and said memory antenna.
- 8. A memory member according to claim 7, wherein said outer casing comprises an upper outer casing and a lower outer casing which are separate members and are combined with each other, wherein said base is mounted on said upper outer casing such that when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, said memory antenna is opposed to the main assembly antenna.
- 9. A memory member according to claim 7, further comprising a regulating portion for regulating the mounting position or orientation of said memory member, wherein said outer casing has a plurality of corner portions, one of which is beveled and comprises said regulating portion.
- 10. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein said memory member communicates with the main assembly through said sending member, said memory antenna, and the main assembly antenna.
- 11. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein the electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image using developer, wherein the information relates to the remaining amount of developer, and said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written in said storing element.
- 12. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein the information relates to an integrated number of rotations of an electrophotographic photosensitive member that the electrophotographic image forming apparatus uses to form an image, and said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written in said storing element.
- 13. A memory member according to claim 1, wherein the information relates to an integrated time of the charging time during which charging means electrically charges an electrophotographic photosensitive member that the electrophotographic image forming apparatus uses to form an image, wherein said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written therein.
- 14. A member according to one of claims 1-5, and 7-11, wherein said memory antenna is disposed substantially only on the front side of said base.
- 15. A memory member according to one of claims 1-5, and 7-11, further comprising a memory antenna provided on the back side of said base and electrically connected with said memory antenna provided on the front side of said base.
- 16. A memory member according to claim 14, wherein said storing element is covered and protected by bonding.
- 17. A process cartridge detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material, the main assembly being provided with a main assembly antenna and an antenna cover covering the main assembly antenna, said process cartridge comprising:(a) an electrophotographic photosensitive member; (b) process means actable on said electrophotographic photosensitive member; and (c) a memory member on a cartridge frame of said process cartridge, said memory member including: a base; a storing element, provided in said base, for storing information; a memory antenna, provided in said base, for sending the information stored in said storing element to the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein said memory antenna is disposed on a front side of said base, and said storing element is disposed on a back side of said base, wherein the front side is a side opposed to the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein there is a gap between said memory antenna and the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus; a sending member, provided in said base, for sending the information stored in said storing element to said memory antenna; and an abutting portion for abutting the antenna cover to regulate the gap between said memory antenna and the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly.
- 18. A process cartridge according to claim 17, wherein said memory member is provided with a portion to be mounted to the cartridge frame, wherein said process means includes at least one of developing means for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive member, charging means for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and cleaning means for removing a residual developer remaining on said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 19. A process cartridge according to claim 18, wherein said portion to be mounted is mounted to the cartridge frame of said process cartridge by a double-sided tape, a bonding material, heat cramping, or fusing.
- 20. A process cartridge according to claim 17, wherein said abutting portion is a part of an outer casing covering said base, said storing element, said sending member, and said memory antenna.
- 21. A process cartridge according to claim 20, wherein said outer casing comprises an upper outer casing and a lower outer casing which are separate members and are combined with each other, and said base is mounted on said upper outer casing such that when said process cartridge is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, said memory antenna is opposed to the main assembly antenna.
- 22. A process cartridge according to claim 20, further comprising a regulating portion for regulating the mounting position or orientation of said memory member, wherein said outer casing has a plurality of corner portions, one of which is beveled and comprises said regulating portion.
- 23. A process cartridge according to claim 17, wherein said memory member is communicable with the main assembly through said sending member, said memory antenna, and the main assembly antenna.
- 24. A process cartridge according to claim 17, wherein the electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image using developer, wherein the information relates to the remaining amount of developer, and said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written in said storing element.
- 25. A process cartridge according to claim 17, wherein the information relates to an integrated number of rotations of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written in said storing element.
- 26. A process cartridge according to claim 17, wherein the information relates to an integrated time of the charging time during which charging means electrically charges said electrophotographic photosensitive member, wherein said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written therein.
- 27. A process cartridge according to any one of claims 17-26, wherein said memory antenna is disposed substantially only on the front side of said base.
- 28. A process cartridge according to any one of claims 17-26, further comprising a memory antenna provided on the back side of said base and electrically connected with said memory antenna provided on the front side of said base.
- 29. A process cartridge according to claim 27, wherein said storing element is covered and protected by bonding.
- 30. A unit detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material, the main assembly being provided with a main assembly antenna and an antenna cover covering the main assembly antenna, said unit comprising:(a) a unit frame; and (b) a memory member on said unit frame, said memory member including: a base; a storing element, provided in said base, for storing information; a memory antenna, provided in said base, for sending information stored in said storing element to the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein said memory antenna is disposed on a front side of said base, and said storing element is disposed on a back side of said base, wherein the front side is a side opposed to the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein there is a gap between said memory antenna and the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus; a sending member, provided in said base, for sending the information stored in said storing element to the memory antenna; and an abutting portion for abutting the antenna cover to regulate the gap between said memory antenna and the main assembly antenna when said memory member is set in the main assembly.
- 31. A unit according to claim 30, wherein said memory member is provided with a portion to be mounted on said unit frame, wherein said unit accommodates a developer to be used for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on an electrophotographic photosensitive member, and is detachably mountable to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein said memory member is mounted to said unit frame by the portion to be mounted being mounted on said unit frame.
- 32. A unit according to claim 31, wherein said unit has a developing roller for developing the electrostatic latent image with the developer.
- 33. A unit according to claim 31 or 32, wherein said portion to be mounted is mounted to said unit frame by a bonding material.
- 34. A unit according to claim 30, wherein said abutting portion is a part of an outer casing covering said base, said storing element, said sending member, and said memory antenna.
- 35. A unit according to claim 34, wherein said outer casing comprises an upper outer casing and a lower outer casing which are separate members and are combined with each other, and said base is mounted on said upper outer casing such that when said unit is set in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, said memory antenna is opposed to the main assembly antenna.
- 36. A unit according to claim 34, further comprising a regulating portion for regulating the mounting position or orientation of said memory member, wherein said outer casing has a plurality of corner portions, one of which is beveled and comprises said regulating portion.
- 37. A unit according to claim 30, wherein said memory member is communicable with the main assembly through said sending member, said memory antenna, and the main assembly antenna.
- 38. A unit according to claim 30, wherein the electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image using developer, wherein the information relates to the remaining amount of developer, and said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written in said storing element.
- 39. A unit according to claim 30, wherein the information relates to an integrated number of rotations of an electrophotographic photosensitive member which the electrophotographic image forming apparatus uses to form an image, and said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written in said storing element.
- 40. A unit according to claim 30, wherein the information relates to an integrated time of the charging time during which charging means electrically charges an electrophotographic photosensitive member which the electrophotographic image forming apparatus uses to form an image, wherein said storing element is constructed such that the information is capable of being written therein.
- 41. A unit according to any one of claims 30-32 and 34-40, wherein said memory antenna is disposed substantially only on the front side of said base.
- 42. A unit according to any one of claims 30-32 and 34-40, further comprising a memory antenna provided on the back side of said base and electrically connected with said memory antenna provided on the front side of said base.
- 43. A unit according to claim 41, wherein said storing element is covered and protected by bonding.
