Claims
- 1. An electric lamp assembly comprising:
- a sealed light-transmissive lamp envelope enclosing an interior;
- a lamp capsule having at least one end located within said interior for generating light upon application of electrical energy, said capsule having a central axis;
- means for coupling electrical energy through said envelope to said capsule;
- a light-transmissive shroud located within said interior, said shroud surrounding said capsule and having at least one open end;
- mounting means for mounting said capsule and said shroud within said interior with said shroud disposed about said capsule;
- frame means within said interior for mechanically coupling said clip means to said envelope; and
- said mounting means including clip means for securely mounting both said capsule and said shroud, said clip means being in contact with said end of said shroud for retaining said shroud in a fixed position relative to said capsule and said envelope, said clip means being in contact with said end of said capsule for retaining said capsule in a fixed position relative to said shroud and said envelope.
- 2. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 1 wherein said clip means includes a ring portion that bears against the end of said shroud.
- 3. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 2 wherein said clip means further includes a flange portion upstanding from said ring portion for preventing lateral movement of said shroud.
- 4. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 2 wherein said clip means further includes plural tab projections from said ring portion for preventing lateral movement of said shroud.
- 5. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 2 wherien said frame means comprises at least one rod generally parallel to said central axis of said capsule and wherein said clip means is affixed to said rod.
- 6. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 4 wherein said frame means includes a rod generally parallel to said central axis of said capsule, wherein said mounting means further includes strap means coupled between said capsule and said rod, and wherein said clip means is coupled to said strap means.
- 7. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 1 wherein said clip means includes an arcuate band positioned within said shroud adjacent to the end thereof, a plurality of generally U-shaped projections from said arcuate band for engaging the end of said shroud and a tab affixed to one of said projections for attaching said clip means to said frame means.
- 8. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 1 wherein said clip means further includes means for retaining said capsule.
- 9. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 1 wherein said clip means includes a strap having inturned ends, an arcuate portion affixed to one of said inturned ends and a tab affixed to the other of said inturned ends, said arcuate portion encircling a portion of said shroud and preventing lateral movement thereof, said tab being attached to said frame means, said strap including portions which bear against the end of said shroud, said shroud being retained between said inturned ends of said strap.
- 10. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 9 wherein said clip means furthe rincludes means for retainign said capsule.
- 11. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 10 wherein said means for retaining said capsule includes spaced-apart projections from said strap, said projections retaining said capsule between them.
- 12. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 11 wherein said spaced-apart projections from said strap are generally U-shaped.
- 13. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 11 wherein said strap includes an opening to provide clearance for an electrical lead of said capsule.
- 14. An electric lamp assembly comprising:
- a sealed light-transmissive lamp envelope enclosing an interior;
- an elongated lamp capsule having two ends, said capsule being located within said interior for generating light upon application of electrical energy;
- means for coupling electrical energy through said envelope to said capsule;
- a generally cylindrical light-transmissive shroud located within said itnerior, said shroud surrounding said capsule and having two open ends;
- mounting means for mounting said capsule and said shroud within said interior with said shroud disposed about said capsule;
- frame means within said interior for mechanically coupling a clip means to said envelope; and
- said mounting means including clip means for securely mounting both said capsule and said shroud, said clip means retaining said shroud in a fixed position relative to said capsule and said envelope, said clip means including a first clip being in contact with a first end of said capsule and a first end of said shroud and a second clip being in contact with a second end of said capsule and a second end of said shroud.
- 15. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 14 wherein said first and second clips each include means for retaining said capsule.
- 16. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 14 wherein said first and second clips each include a strap having inturned ends, an arcuate portion affixed to one of said inturned ends and a tab affixed to the other of said inturned ends, said arcuate portion encircling a portion of said shroud and preventing lateral movement thereof, said tab being attached to said frame means, said strap including portions which bear against the end of said shroud, said shroud being retained between said inturned ends of said strap.
- 17. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 16 wherein said first and second clips include means for retaining said capsule.
- 18. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 17 wherein said means for retaining said capsule includes spaced-apart projections from said strap, said projections retaining said capsule between them.
- 19. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 18 wherein said spaced-apart projections of said strap are generally U-shaped.
- 20. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 16 wherein said frame means comprises a rod generally parallel to said central axis of said capsule and wherein the tabs of said first and second clips are welded to said rod.
- 21. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 18 wherein each strap includes an opening to provide clearance for an electrical lead of said capsule.
- 22. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 14 wherein said first and second clips each include a strap having inturned ends, each of said inturned ends having an arcuate portion and a tab affixed thereto, said arcuate portions each encircling a portion of said shroud and preventing lateral movement thereof, said tabs being attached to said frame means, said strap including portions which bear against an end of said shroud, said shroud being retained between said inturned ends of said strap and between said arcuate portions.
- 23. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 22 wherein said first and second clips include means for retaining said capsule.
- 24. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 23 wherein said means for retaining said capsule includes spaced-apart projections froms aid strap which retain said capsule between them.
- 25. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 24 wherein said strap includes an opening to provide clearance for an electrical lead of said capsule.
- 26. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 14 wherein said first and second clips each include a ring portion that bears against the end of said shroud.
- 27. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 26 wherein said first and second clips each further include a flange portion upstanding from said ring portion for preventing lateral movement of said shroud.
- 28. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 26 wherein said first and second clips each further include plural projections from said ring portion for preventing lateral movement of said shroud.
- 29. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 14 wherein said first and second clips each include an arcuate band positioned within said shroud adjacent to the end thereof, a plurality of generally U-shaped projections from said arcuate band for engaging the end of said shroud and a tab affixed to one of said projections for attaching said clip means to said frame means.
- 30. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 22 wherein said frame means comprises a pair of rods on opposite sides of said shroud and generally parallel to said central axis of said capsule and wherein said clips are attached to each of said rods to provide a rigid assembly.
- 31. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 22 wherein said frame means comprises a pair of rods generally parallel to said central axis of said capsule and positioned on opposite sides of said shroud, the tabs of said first and second slips being welded to said rods.
- 32. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 29 wherein said frame means comprises a pair of spaced-apart rods parallel to said centrla axis of said capsule and positioned on opposite sides of said shroud, said first clip having said tab welded to one of said rods and said second clip having said tab welded to the other of said rods to retain said shroud between them.
- 33. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 28 wherein at least one of said projections includes a tab attached to said frame means.
- 34. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 28 wherein said frame means includes a pair of rods generally parallel to said central axis of said capsule and positioned on opposite sides of said shroud, wherein said mounting means further includes strap means coupled between each end of said capsule and said rods and wherein said clips are attached to said strap means.
- 35. An electric lamp assembly as described in claim 15 wherein said first and second clips each comprise a strap having inturned ends attached to said frame means, a first pair of projections for retaining said capsule and a second pair of projections for bearing against the end of said shroud and for preventing lateral movement of said capsule between said first pair of projections, said first and second clips each further including a pair of generally semicircular bands which encircle said shroud and preventing lateral movement thereof.
- 36. An electric lamp assembly comprising:
- a sealed light-transmissive lamp envelope enclosing and interior;
- a lamp capsule located within said interior for generating light upon application of electrical energy, said capsule having a central axis;
- means for coupling electrical energy through said envelope to said capsule;
- a generally cylindrical light-transmissive shroud within said inerior, said shroud surrounding said capsule and having open ends;
- frame means located within said interior and mechanically coupled to said envelope; and
- clip means for retaining said shroud and said capsule in fixed positions relative to said envelope with said capsule positioned within said shroud, said clip means including a first clip in contact with a first end of said shroud and a second clip in contact with a second end of said shroud, said first and second clips each including a strap having inturned ends, an arcuate portion affixed to at least one of said inturned end, and a tab affixed to at least one of said inturned ends, said arcuate portion encircling a portion of said shroud and preventing lateral movement thereof, said tab being attached to said frame means, said strap including portions which bear against the ends of said shroud, said shroud being retained between said inturned ends of said strap, said first and second clips further including spaced-apart projections from said strap which retain said capsule between them.
