Claims
- 1. A method of suppressing cavitation in or about a region of a surface that is subjected to cavitation-producing energy, said method comprising providing a transducer and exciting the transducer to produce a biased acoustic field comprising a series of pressure pulses in the region that exceed peak negative tensile force of cavitation-producing energy.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing step includes providing a perforated transducer.
- 3. A method of suppressing cavitation in or about a region of a surface that is subjected to cavitation-producing energy, said method comprising providing a alternately energized transducers and alternately exciting the transducer to produce a biased acoustic field comprising a series of pressure pulses in the region that exceed peak negative tensile force of cavitation-producing energy.
- 4. An apparatus that suppresses cavitation in or about a region of an element subjected to cavitation events, said apparatus comprising:
a transducer, a source of power that excites the transducer to produce a biased acoustic field in and/or about the region to be protected.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the transducer comprises a perforated transducer.
- 6. An apparatus that suppresses cavitation in or about a region of an element subjected to cavitation events, said apparatus comprising:
a pair of transducers, a source of power that alternately excites the transducers to produce a biased compressive pressure field in and/or about the region to be protected.
