Thus, repeated descriptions of operations 501 and 504-511 are omitted as well.

In operation 512, it is determined whether the request of third application 303 is valid. If the request is invalid, the process reverts to the enrollment process. However, if the request is valid, the process continues to operation 514. In operation 514, two unique random numbers are generated by the second application 302 and are encrypted in operation 515. The second random number is sent to the first application 301 by the second application 302 in operation 516. In operation 517, the first random number and the second random number are encrypted using the third application's public key and sent to the third application 303 with a certificate of first apparatus by the second application 302, signed by the back office.

The third application 303 validates the certificate of first apparatus by checking if it signed by the back office in operation 518. If it is not signed by the back office, the certificate is rejected by the third application. If it is signed by the back office, the encrypted first and second random numbers are decrypted using a private key of third application 303 in operation 519 and a first hash of the decrypted first random number and a first shared predefined context string is sent to second application in operation 520.

In operation 521, the second application 302 verifies the received first hash and if verification fails, the firewall synchronization port is actively closed. If verification succeeds, a requested transport layer security (TLS) port is opened in operation 522 for a predetermined period of time (e.g., sixty seconds) as defined in a certificate presented at enrollment.

If TLS pre-shared key (PSK) does not follow operation 522, the first application 301 receives a second hash of the second decrypted random number and a second shared predefined context string in operation 523. Then, in operation 524, the second hash is verified by the first application 301 and a TLS PSK connection is set up based on the verified second hash and the second random number.

FIG. 6 shows a flowchart for a method for authenticating an application according to an exemplary embodiment. The method of FIG. 6 may be performed by the apparatus that authenticates an application 100 or may be encoded into a computer readable medium as instructions that are executable by a computer to perform the method.

Referring to FIG. 6 and operation 610, an authentication application on the first device connects to a second application of a second device on a second address and port in response to receiving a request on a first address and port from the second application. In operation 620, a request including a signed certificate of the second device is received. Then, in operation 630, it is determined whether the signed certificate is valid. In response to determining the signed certificate is valid, a screen to accept the request is displayed in operation 5650 if the signed certificate is unapproved. In operation 640, a function is performed if the request is accepted.

The method of claim 7, further comprising: receiving, by the first application, a second hash of the second decrypted random number and a second shared predefined context string;verifying the second hash at the first application; andsetting up a TLS PSK based on the verified second hash and the second random number.
  • 9. The method of claim 7, wherein the second request including the signed certificate comprises one or more from among user identification information, application identification information, a requested service name, a requested service port, a certificate of the second device, and a public key of the second device.
  • 10. The method of claim 7, wherein the first request on the first address and port from the second application comprises and a multicast domain name system (mDNS) request, and wherein the first address and port comprises a UDP rate limited port and the second address and port comprises a TCP rate limited port.
  • 11. The method of claim 7, wherein the connecting the authentication application on the first device to the second application of the second device on the second address and port in response to receiving the request on the first address and port from the second application comprises responding to the request by providing the second address and port to the second application.
  • 12. The method of claim 7, wherein the screen to accept the request includes a first option to always accept a connection from the second application, a second option to accept a connection from the second application for the received request, and a third option to deny a connection from the second application for the received request.
  • 13. An apparatus that authenticates an application, the apparatus comprising: at least one memory comprising computer executable instructions; andat least one processor configured to read and execute the computer executable instructions, the computer executable instructions causing the at least one processor to:connect an authentication application on a first device to a second application of a second device on a second address and port in response to receiving a first request on a first address and port from the second application;receive a second request including a signed certificate of the second device;determine whether the signed certificate is valid;in response to determining the signed certificate is valid, display a screen to accept request if the signed certificate is unapproved; andperform a function if the request is accepted.
  • 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the computer executable instructions cause the at least one processor to perform the function if the request is accepted by storing the request.
  • 15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the computer executable instructions cause the at least one processor to perform the function if the request is accepted by: sending a first encrypted random number and a second encrypted random number to the first application on the first device and the second application on the second device;receiving, by the authentication application, a first hash of the decrypted first random number and a first shared predefined context string;verifying the received first hash at the authentication application; andclosing a firewall sync port if the verifying the received first hash fails or opening a requested TLS port if the verifying the received first hash is successful.
  • 16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the computer executable instructions cause the at least one processor to perform the function if the request is accepted by: receiving, by the first application, a second hash of the second decrypted random number and a second shared predefined context string;verifying the second hash at the first application; andsetting up a TLS PSK based on the verified second hash and the second random number.
  • 17. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the request including the signed certificate comprises one or more from among user identification information, application identification information, a requested service name, a requested service port, a certificate of the second device, and a public key of the second device.
  • 18. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the computer executable instructions cause the at least one processor to connect the authentication application on the first device to the second application of the second device on the second address and port in response to receiving the request on the first address and port from the second application by responding to the request by providing the second address and port to the second application.
  • 19. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the screen to accept the request includes a first option to always accept a connection from the second application, a second option to accept a connection from the second application for the received request, and a third option to deny a connection from the second application for the received request.
