Claims
- 1. An apparatus for automatically linking a drive member of a power source and a driven member of an implement comprising;
a) a first attachment piece having two sides, one of said sides connected to the power source; b) a second attachment piece having two sides, one of said sides connected to the implement; and c) an attachment mechanism for automatically connecting said first and second attachment pieces whereby said drive member and said driven member are operably coupled.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first and second attachment pieces are frame structures.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said frame structures are squares.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said square frame structures each have a channel bisecting said frames.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first attachment piece has guides to keep said first and second attachment pieces from moving transversely relative to one another when in a connected state.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said second attachment piece has guides to keep said first and second attachment pieces from moving transversely relative to one another when in a connected state.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, said attachment mechanism comprising;
a) a ball carried on one of said attachment pieces; b) a receiving piece to receive said ball, said receiving piece carried on the other said attachment piece from said ball; c) a hook and receiver; and f) a shaft and gear coupler for automatically connecting said drive member and said driven member.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the hook and receiver comprises a hook carried on said first attachment piece.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein said receiver is a peg located on said second attachment piece.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein said device for controlling the said latch operating mechanism comprises:
a) a spring having two ends, a first end being attached to the power source; and b) an elongated operating member with two ends, a first end attached to said second end of said spring, and said second end of said elongated operating member being attached to said latch operating mechanism.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein one elongated operating member is used for each latch operating mechanism, each end of said elongated operating member being attached to said spring.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said elongated operating member is a rope.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said elongated operating member is a wire.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said elongated operating member is a cable.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said elongated operating member is a bungee cord.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the attachment mechanism comprises a shaft and gear coupler for automatically connecting said drive member and said driven member wherein the shaft and gear coupler comprises:
a) a drive shaft carried by said first attachment piece said drive shaft carried in a fixed position; b) at least one drive gear; and c) a coupling shaft having a first and second end carried by said second attachment piece, said shaft having a splined shaft on said first end and a power take off on said second end wherein said first end is orientated towards the tractor, and said second end is connected to the power take off shaft of the implement.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16, the attachment mechanism further comprising;
a) a first sprocket attached to the drive shaft; b) a second sprocket attached to the at least one drive gear; and b) an endless chain connecting the first and second sprockets.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein said sprockets are high speed sprockets.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein said chain is a high speed chain.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein a first drive gear is attached to one end of said drive shaft, and a second drive gear is carried by said first end of said coupling shaft.
- 21. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein a first drive gear is attached to a sprocket, one end of said drive shaft is attached to second sprocket, and both of said sprockets are connected by a drive chain.
- 22. The apparatus of claim 16 comprising two drive gears, wherein each drive gear has a housing, designed so that when the ends of said housings are brought together, they lock into connection.
- 23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the ends of said housings are beveled oppositely from each other so as to fit in a locking connection when brought together.
- 24. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein a spring is carried by said first end of said coupling shaft located between said at least one drive gear and said second attachment piece.
- 25. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein said drive shaft is attached to said first attachment piece with a bearing.
- 26. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein said coupling shaft is attached to said second attachment piece with a bearing.
- 27. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein a bolt on collar attached to said second attachment piece over said bearing secures said bearing from moving.
- 28. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein said splined end of said coupling shaft is tapered at the end.
- 29. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein said splined end of said coupling shaft carries a snap on ring.
- 30. A method for connecting a drive member of a power source and a driven member of an implement comprising:
a) attaching a first attachment piece to the attachment points of a power source; b) attaching a second attachment piece to the attachment points of an implement; and c) automatically attaching said first and second attachment pieces.
- 31. The method in claim 30 wherein said power source is a hauling device.
- 32. The method in claim 30 wherein said power source is a tractor.
- 33. The method in claim 30 wherein the first attachment piece is attached to a three pont hitch.
- 34. The method in claim 30 wherein the second attachment piece is attached to a draw bar.
- 35. The method of claim 30, wherein the step of automatically attaching said first and second attachment pieces comprises:
a) bringing a drive gear carried on a drive shaft and a drive gear carried on a connection shaft into a connection; and b) locking the first and second attachment pieces together.
- 36. The method of claim 35, wherein the first and second attachment pieces are locked together with a hook and peg assembly.
- 37. The method of claim 36, further comprising a ball carried on one attachment piece, and a receiving piece carried on the opposite attachment piece.
- 38. An apparatus for automatically linking a drive member of a power source and a driven member of an implement comprising;
a) a first attachment piece having two sides, one of said sides connected to the power source; b) a second attachment piece having two sides, one of said sides connected to the implement; and c) means for automatically connecting said first and second attachment pieces whereby said drive member and said driven member are operably coupled.
