Claims
- 1. Method for accessing media content using a mobile communications device, said method comprising the steps of:
receiving a user request for media content; analyzing the user request for private information; and prompting the user for feedback if execution of the user request requires the revelation of private information.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the received request is a natural language query.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein private information includes any information stored in the mobile communications device's local knowledge base.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the private information pertains to the user's personal information or one or more of the user's previous requests.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the private information includes the output of one or more sensors coupled to the mobile communications device.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein one or more sensors is a global positioning system receiver.
- 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
searching for the requested media content if the user request does not require the revelation of private information; and delivering the requested media content to the user.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of prompting the user for feedback comprises:
alerting the user to the fact that execution of the user request will require the revelation of private information; and soliciting user permission to execute the user request.
- 9. The method of claim 8, further comprising the steps of:
searching for the requested media content if user permission to execute the user request is granted; and delivering the requested media content to the user.
- 10. The method of claim 8, further comprising the steps of:
reformulating the user request in a manner that does not require the revelation of private information, if user permission to execute the user request is not granted; searching for the requested media content based on the reformulated user request; and delivering the requested media content to the user.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the step of reformulating the user request comprises:
prompting the user with hints for alternate request construction.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the user is prompted using a user interface comprising one or more templates for providing hints.
- 13. A computer readable medium containing an executable program for accessing media content using a mobile communications device, where the program performs the steps of:
receiving a user request for media content; analyzing the user request for private information; and prompting the user for feedback if execution of the user request requires the revelation of private information.
- 14. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein the received request is a natural language query.
- 15. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein private information includes any information stored in the mobile communications device's local knowledge base.
- 16. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein the private information pertains to the user's personal information or one or more of the user's previous requests.
- 17. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein the private information includes the output of one or more sensors coupled to the mobile communications device.
- 18. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein one or more sensors is a global positioning system receiver.
- 19. The computer readable medium of claim 13, further comprising the steps of:
searching for the requested media content if the user request does not require the revelation of private information; and delivering the requested media content to the user.
- 20. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein the step of prompting the user for feedback comprises:
alerting the user to the fact that execution of the user request will require the revelation of private information; and soliciting user permission to execute the user request.
- 21. The computer readable medium of claim 20, further comprising the steps of:
searching for the requested media content if user permission to execute the user request is granted; and delivering the requested media content to the user.
- 22. The computer readable medium of claim 20, further comprising the steps of:
reformulating the user request in a manner that does not require the revelation of private information, if user permission to execute the user request is not granted; searching for the requested media content based on the reformulated user request; and delivering the requested media content to the user.
- 23. The computer readable medium of claim 22, wherein the step of reformulating the user request comprises:
prompting the user with hints for alternate request construction.
- 24. The computer readable medium of claim 23, wherein the user is prompted using a user interface comprising one or more templates for providing hints.
- 25. Apparatus for remotely accessing media content, said method comprising the steps of:
means for receiving a user request for media content; means for analyzing the user request for private information; and means for prompting the user for feedback if execution of the user request requires the revelation of private information.
