Claims
- 1. Method for determining the presence of a gap between textile fiber bales disposed in a row at successive locations in the operative range of a bale opener, the bale opener including a movable carriage movable alongside the row of bales and a turret mounted on the carriage, said method comprising: directly sensing the locations of edges of successive bales which delmit a gap, by means of a distance sensor; and producing an electrical signal responsive to the sensing of each edge location.
- 2. Method as defined in claim 1 wherein the distance sensor is an optical proximity switch.
- 3. Method as defined in claim 2 wherein the switch has a sensing direction which is inclined to the vertical.
- 4. Method as defined in claim 1 wherein the distance sensor has a sensing direction which is inclined to the vertical.
- 5. Apparatus associated with a bale opener for determining the presence of gaps between textile fiber bales disposed in a row, the bale opener being movable alongside the row, said apparatus comprising: sensor means movable with the bale opener for sensing the locations of edges of successive bales which delimit a gap and for producing an electrical signal indicative of the position of each such edge.
- 6. Apparatus as defined in claim 5 wherein said sensor is an optical proximity switch.
- 7. Apparatus as defined in claim 6 wherein said switch has a sensing direction which is inclined to the vertical.
- 8. Apparatus as defined in claim 5 wherein said sensor has a sensing direction which is inclined to the vertical.
