Claims
- 1. A method for distributing data packets, wherein the data packets include at least one data packet to be distributed to a session network interface device and at least one data packet to be distributed to at least one other network interface device, comprising:
examining ones of the data packets for a session initiation; initiating a session in accordance with said examining, wherein said initiating creates a record of at least one of at least one IP address and at least one port number in use for said initiated session; determining association of other ones of the data packets with said initiated session by comparing the other ones of the data packets with said record; routing at least one of the data packets associated with the initiated session to the session network interface device; and routing at least one of the data packets not associated with the initiated session to the at least one other network interface device.
- 2. A data packet distributor, comprising:
an examining means for monitoring ones of a plurality of data packets for a session initiation; an initiating means for initiating a session after said examining means demonstrates the session initiation, wherein said initiating means creates a record of IP addresses and port numbers for said initiated session; an determining means for associating other ones of the data packets with the initiated session by comparing the other ones of the data packets with said record; and a routing means for routing at least one of the data packets associated with the initiated session to a first session network interface device, and for routing at least one of the data packets not associated with the initiated session to at least one second network interface device.
- 3. A signal distribution system capable of routing data packets comprised of session data packets and secondary data packets, comprising:
a controller; a controller interface; a session network interface device; at least one other network interface device; and wherein said controller receives at least one of the data packets and categorizes the at least one data packet as one of a session data packet and a secondary data packet, and wherein said controller routes over said controller interface at least one session data packet to said session network interface device and at least one secondary data packet to said at least one other network interface device.
- 4. The signal distribution system of claim 3, wherein said controller is located between a TCP/IP protocol and at least one lower layer Network Interface Device.
- 5. The signal distribution system of claim 3, wherein said controller is a dynamic link library.
- 6. The signal distribution system of claim 3, wherein said controller is a virtual device.
- 7. The signal distribution system of claim 3, wherein said controller categorizes in accordance with a comparison of assigned ports contained within the data packet to ports recorded in a session status structure, wherein said session status structure is created at initiation of the session to include at least one port associated with the session.
- 8. The signal distribution system of claim 3, further comprising a wire sheath including a first pair of wires connected to at least one of said other network interface devices, and a second pair connected to said session network interface device.
- 9. The signal distribution system of claim 8, wherein said first pair of wires is a wideband signal distribution connection.
- 10. The signal distribution system of claim 8, wherein said second pair of wires is a standard data network connection.
- 11. The signal distribution system of claim 8, wherein said wire sheath is CAT 5 unshielded twisted pair cable.
- 12. The signal distribution system of claim 3, wherein said controller is capable of monitoring traffic looking for a session initiation.
- 13. The signal distribution of 12, wherein said session initiation includes port numbers used in H.323 applications.
- 14. The signal distribution of 12, wherein said session initiation includes port number 1720.
- 15. The signal distribution system of claim 3, further comprising an address filter suitable for receiving, monitoring, processing and routing data streams intended for a specific addressable device.
