Claims
- 1. An automatic number identification (ANI) signalling method for use in communication between plural transceivers, comprising:
- assigning a corresponding identification number to each of the transceivers, wherein one of the transceivers transmits ANI digital data including the corresponding identification number when the transceiver transmits over a communications channel;
- representing each bit ANI data as predetermined pattern of chips or as a complement of the predetermined pattern of chips; and
- using a modem in the transceiver having a chip transmission frequency greater that a frequency of an ANI carrier waveform to repeatedly generated the predetermined pattern of chip and the complement of the predetermined pattern of chips top simulate the ANI carrier waveform.
- 2. The method as in claim 1, wherein the predetermined pattern of chips corresponds to a digital "1" bit of ANI data and the complement of the predetermined pattern of chips corresponds to a digital "0" of ANI data.
- 3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the ANI carrier waveform has a frequency of 1600 Hz.
- 4. A radio for generating automatic number identification (ANI) signalling at a predetermined ANI carrier frequency, the ANI signalling including an identification number corresponding to the radio, comprising:
- a processor for representing each bit of ANI data a predetermined pattern of chips or as a complement of the predetermined pattern of chips;
- a modern having a chip transmission frequency greater than the ANI carrier waveform frequency from repeatedly generating the predetermined pattern of chips and the complement pattern of chips to simulate ANI carrier waveform; and
- a transmitter for transmitting the ANI carrier waveform simulated by the modem when a message is transmitted by the radio to identify the radio.
- 5. The radio according to claim 4, wherein the predetermined pattern of chips corresponds to a "1" bit of ANI data and the complement of the predetermined pattern of chips corresponds to a "0" bit of ANI data.
- 6. The radio according to claim 4, wherein the ANI carrier waveform frequency is 1600 Hz.
- 7. The method as in claim 1, wherein the predetermined pattern and the complement of the predetermined pattern each include 24 chips that represent one bit of ANI data.
- 8. The radio as in claim 4, wherein the predetermined pattern and the complement of the predetermined pattern each include 24 chips that represent one bit of ANI data.
- 9. The method as in claim 1, wherein the bits of ANI data are generated by the modem at 400 bits per second and the predetermined pattern of chips and the complement of the predetermined pattern of chips for each of ANI data are each generated in 2.5 millisecond time periods.
- 10. The radio in claim 4, wherein the bits of ANI data are generated by the modem at 400 bits per second and the predetermined pattern of chips and the complement of the predetermined pattern of chips for each bit of ANI data are each generated in 2.5 millisecond time periods.
- 11. The method as in claim 9, wherein the repeatedly generated patterns of chips that produce ANI data at 400 bits per second simulate an ANI carrier waveform of 1600 Hz.
- 12. The radio as in claim 10, wherein the repeatedly generated patterns of chips that produce ANI data at 400 bits per second simulate an ANI carrier waveform of 1600 Hz.
- 13. The method as in claim 1, wherein the simulated ANI carrier modulates a modem carrier generated by the modem.
- 14. The radio as in claim 4, wherein the simulated ANI carrier modulates a modem carrier generated by the modem and the modem carrier modulates a radio frequency carrier generated by the transmitter.
- 15. The method in claim 1, further comprising:
- phase shifting one chip of the predetermined chip pattern to generate the complement chip pattern, and
- phase shifting one chip of the complement chip pattern to generate the predetermined chip pattern.
- 16. The radio in claim 4, wherein the modem phase shifts one chip of the predetermined chip pattern to generate the complement chip pattern, and phase shifts one chip of the complement chip pattern to generate the predetermined chip pattern.
- 17. The method in claim 11, wherein the modem is a digital modem and the simulated ANI carrier waveform corresponds to an analog tone.
- 18. The radio in claim 4, wherein the modem is a digital modem, the radio further comprising a filter coupled to the digital modem for smoothing the simulated ANI carrier waveform into an analog tone.
