Claims
- 1. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a score simulator tool; using said score simulator tool to generate a simulated credit score that predicts said consumer's real credit score by:
altering one or more characteristics to reflect a selected simulation when said consumer selects a particular simulation option; recalculating said simulated credit score; comparing said recalculated, simulated credit score to said real credit score; and providing said consumer with a range of impacts that said simulation has on said consumer's credit score.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
setting said one or more characteristics back to their original values when said consumer chooses to perform another simulation; and repeating said process with a different simulation request.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
repeating said process with a different simulation request; and cumulating simulation results.
- 4. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, and accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, said method comprising the steps of:
providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said report comprising any of information concerning said consumer's credit score, and said consumer's credit history; providing a credit score simulator; said credit score comprising any of said consumer's actual credit score and a list of one or more sources of credit information upon which said credit score is based; optionally representing said credit score graphically; providing said consumer with an explanation of the significance of said credit score; providing said consumer with a summary of factors affecting said credit score, optionally broken down into positive factors and negative factors.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein said credit score simulator provides a variety of hypothetical actions from which said consumer may select to determine the effect of such actions on said consumer's credit score.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein said credit score simulator provides a simulated range to allow said consumer to compare the effect on said consumer's credit score of taking various actions with said consumer's current credit scores.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein once a simulated credit score is calculated, it is compared to said consumer's real/initial credit score, and a difference between said real/initial credit score and said simulated credit score is assessed for accuracy.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein a likely impact of a selected simulation scenario on said consumer's credit score is expressed as a range of potential credit score values.
- 9. The method of claim 6, wherein simulation scenarios are mutually exclusive; and wherein impacts of multiple different scenarios are not additive.
- 10. The method of claim 6, wherein said hypothetical actions are set back to an original state each time said consumer requests a new scenario; and wherein said hypothetical actions are then altered to correspond with said new scenario when run.
- 11. The method of claim 6, comprising the steps of:
providing a table in a consumer credit score explanation service database for storing generated variables required for said credit score simulator; forwarding a unique identifier to a score simulator query page in a URL which allows for a query of a generated variables record that is unique to a particular report; and optionally providing a second unique identifier (session_id) which is evaluated to verify authentication of a user.
- 12. The method of claim 4, further comprising the steps of:
providing said consumer with a link to a credit provider, said link containing an offer from said credit provider to said consuemr of one or more credit products; and passing said explanation report to said credit provider upon consumer acceptance of said offer.
- 13. The method of claim 6, wherein said credit score simulator can be used on reports that are being reviewed within a predetermined time.
- 14. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing one or more sample lending rate tables based upon hypothetical consumer credit scores; and providing said consumer with information for learning approximately for what interest rates said consumer might qualify, based on said consumer's individual credit scores.
- 15. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a calculator for determining consumer credit cost based upon hypothetical consumer credit scores; determining consumer credit cost based upon hypothetical consumer credit scores; enabling said consumer to learn potential savings said consumer could realize over time from a changed credit score; optionally generating any of monthly payment and lifetime loan savings, as well as total interest paid over the life of a loan, based upon any of such factors as loan type, loan principle, location, average interest rate, and monthly payment.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein said determining step is performed with consumer credit scores which include any of a current credit score and a target credit score.
- 17. The method of claim 15, further comprising the step of:
providing said consumer with an expected interest rate in a credit score range.
- 18. The method of claim 15, wherein said generating step is performed with both a nation interest rate average and all state interest rate averages.
- 19. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
considering one or more data sources in a decision process with regard to the provision of one or more offers, wherein said one or more data sources optionally comprise any of data elements from a consumer's credit report, other data sources, and consumer provided preference information; and providing for consumer selection of any of said one or more offers.
- 20. The method of claim 19, wherein said consumer's name/address information is automatically populated into a vendor's application form in response to consumer selection of said one or more offers.
- 21. The method of claim 19, wherein said consumer credit score is based on any of FICO Industry Option Scores and base FICO scores.
- 22. The method of claim 19, further comprising the steps of:
processing a consumer's application for credit on behalf of said consumer; and sending a completed/approved consumer application to a vendor of credit-related goods and/or services.
- 23. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
using said consumer's credit score as a consumer reputation score for online bidding/purchasing; and making said reputation score available to both a buyer and a seller in an online transaction.
- 24. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a multi-bureau report with a credit score; including in one of said multi-bureau reports a credit score and a credit score explanation; and providing additional information to help said consumer understand how said consumer's credit score could be different at other bureaus based on differences in data.
- 25. The method of claim 24, said including step further comprising the step of:
providing said consumer with at least two bureau reports and credit scores/explanations for at least two bureau reports.
- 26. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a credit fixer service which permits said consumer to correct one or more errors; and notifying one ore more bureaus at the same time to resolve said one or more errors.
- 27. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a credit score alert service; and said consumer selecting one or more parameters for when said consumer is to be notified.
- 28. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing one or more reports that identify theft protection; notifying a consumer when one or more changes appear said consumer's bureau report; and optionally providing insurance to cover the consumer's cost of resolving any theft.
- 29. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a credit capacity tool that helps said consumer understand how much credit capacity is available to said consumer at a given point in time; and said consumer selecting one or more hypothetical actions to determine how said consumer can improve said his credit capacity.
- 30. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
linking of vendors of consumer credit products and services with a consumer credit score explanation service; said consumer applying said consumer's credit score to determine if he qualifies for credit; and said consumer receiving offers from vendors of credit-related goods and services.
- 31. The method of claim 30, further comprising the step of:
enabling vendors of credit-related goods and services to identify qualified prospects and offer said qualified prospects specific credit products in which they have expressed an interest.
- 32. The method of claim 30, further comprising the step of:
said consumer choosing to opt-in to receive offers from one or more lending institutions.
- 33. The method of claim 32, wherein if said consumer did not opt-in or did not meet a lender's criteria, an offer is not made to said consumer.
- 34. The method of claim 32, wherein if a lender's criteria are met and said consumer opted-in, then based on instructions from said lender, different cross-sell messages are presented to said consumer based on said consumer's credit score.
- 35. The method of claim 34, wherein if said consumer wishes to inquire more about said cross-sell offer, said consumer is transferred to said lender's Web site where one or more credit products are sold and provisioned.
- 36. The method of claim 30, wherein a credit offer is only displayed if said consumer has indicated his willingness to receive such offer.
- 37. The method of claim 30, wherein a credit offer is displayed as a link within said credit score report.
- 38. The method of claim 30, wherein a credit at most one credit offer is displayed on said consumer's credit score report.
- 39. The method of claim 30, wherein a credit lender provides data for said credit lender's offers, said data comprising any of offer identifier, text to be displayed, and specific criterion that must be met by said consumer, before displaying each offer.
- 40. The method of claim 30, wherein if said consumer selects a displayed offer, said consumer is transferred to a lender's Web site to apply for credit.
- 41. The method of claim 40, wherein a window is opened when linking to said lender's Web site;
wherein said lender provides a URL of said lender's site to be used for each offer; wherein an identifier for a selected offer is included in said link, as well as a unique transaction id; and wherein said identifier of said selected offer is stored before transferring said consumer to said lender's Web site.
- 42. The method of claim 30, wherein a length of time that has passed since an initial display of a report is used as a criterion for offering the consumer an opportunity to obtain information about offers of credit.
- 43. The method of claim 42, wherein said opportunity is offered only if a number of days since said credit score report was first displayed is less than a specified value, assuming all other criteria for an offer are met.
- 44. The method of claim 30, further comprising the steps of:
in processing a referral based upon lender criteria, first checking to see if said offer is in a valid score range; then checking to see if said offer is still date valid; if said score range and/or date are valid, displaying said offer; and if said score range and/or date are not valid, then not displaying anything.
- 45. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
linking of vendors of consumer credit products and services with a consumer credit score explanation service; said consumer applying said consumer's credit score to determine if he qualifies for credit; and said consumer receiving offers from vendors of credit-related goods and service; providing a link provided to said consumer if an offer is made is to a lender with all necessary information; updating database showing when said consumer selected said offer, and which offer was selected; retrieving a selected link from a database; redirecting a current page to said lender's site with a unique ID passed to identify said consumer credit score explanation service to said lender as a source of said consumer referral.
- 46. The method of claim 45, further comprising the step of:
reporting on any of credit offers, consumer acceptance thereof, and various detailed analysis therein.
- 47. A method for explaining credit scores by offering consumers access to consumer credit data, accepting consumer credit scores and reason codes from individual consumers or third parties, and providing an explanation report to said individual consumers based upon the individual consumers' credit scores and reason codes, said method comprising the steps of:
a consumer responding to a lending institution's promotional activities inquiring abut his credit score; directing said consumer to a portal entry that allows a consumer and/or lender agent to access a score explanation service to obtain said score explanation service; said consumer choosing to opt-in to receive offers from said lending institution; said consumer providing identification information which allows said consumer's credit report to be accessed; said consumer receiving his credit score; processing said consumer's score is processed through a decision table that matches said score against criteria provided by said lender; if said consumer did not opt-in or did not meet said lender's criteria, an offer is not made to said consumer; and if said lender's criteria are met and said consumer opted-in, presenting one or more cross-sell messages to said consumer based on said consumer's credit score.
- 48. The method of claim 47, further comprising the step of:
reporting on any of credit offers, consumer acceptance thereof, and various detailed analysis therein.
- 49. The method of claim 47, wherein if said consumer wishes to inquire more about said one or more cross-sell offers, said consumer is transferred to said either of lender's agent or said lender's site where credit products are sold and provisioned.
