Claims
- 1. A method for use in assigning a rule to a roamer access port, comprising the steps of:
- determining that a roamer access port needs a rule to be assigned to it;
- determining the characteristics of said roamer access port; and
- applying the one of a predetermined set of rules for accessing wireless telephone service at mobile switching centers served by roamer access ports that have said determined characteristic when there is such a rule.
- 2. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said step of determining the characteristics of said roamer access port includes the steps of:
- a. placing a call to said roamer access port;
- b. attempting to apply one of a predetermined set of previously untried rules for accessing wireless telephone service at the mobile switching center served by said roamer access port; and
- c. assigning to said roamer access port the characteristics of another roamer access port for which said rule is used only when said attempt to apply said previously untried rule successfully accesses wireless telephone service at the mobile switching center served by said roamer access port.
- 3. The invention as defined in claim 2 further including the step of repeating steps (a) through (c) until either said roamer access port is assigned characteristics or there are no remaining previously untried rules.
