Claims
- 1. A method of constructing a heat exchanger header tank comprising the steps of:
casting a first common end component and a second common end component with integral attachment fittings; selecting a length for at least one formed sheet component from a plurality of predetermined lengths; cutting the at least one sheet component to the selected length; and connecting the at least one formed sheet component intermediate the first common end component and the second end component to form the header tank.
- 2. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the step of casting includes forming an inlet/outlet fitting on the first common end component.
- 3. The method as defined in claim 1 further comprising the step of casting at least one intermediate component including an inlet/outlet fitting; and wherein the step of selecting includes
selecting a length for a first formed sheet component and selecting a length for a second formed sheet components and wherein the step of cutting includes cutting the first and second formed sheet component to the selected lengths; and wherein the step of connecting includes connecting the first formed sheet component intermediate the first common end component and the intermediate component and connecting the second formed sheet component intermediate the intermediate component and the second common end component.
- 4. A heat exchanger header tank comprising:
a plurality of cast components having integral attachment fittings, at least one of said plurality of cast components having an inlet and at least on of said plurality of cast components having an outliet; and at least one formed sheet component of selectably variable length connected to and extending between two of the plurality of cast components.
- 5. A heat exchanger header tank as defined in claim 4 wherein the plurality of cast components includes at least one cast end component.
- 6. A heat exchanger header tank as defined in claim 4 wherein the plurality of cast components includes a cast end component, a cast end component with an inlet/outlet fitting, and the formed sheet component is between the cast end component and the cast end component with an inlet/outlet fitting.
- 7. The heat exchanger header tank as defined in claim 4 wherein the plurality of cast components includes a pair of cast end components, a cast fitting component, and further comprising a second formed sheet component, said at least on formed sheet component between one cast end and the cast fitting, and the second formed sheet component between the other cast end and the cast fitting.
- 8. A method of constructing a heat exchanger comprising the steps of:
casting a first common end component and a second common end component having integral attachment fittings; selecting a length for at least one formed sheet component from a plurality of predetermined lengths; cutting the at least one sheet component to the selected length; and connecting the first and second common end components and the at least one formed sheet component together to form a first header tank; repeating the previous steps to form a second header tank; connecting the first and second-header tanks to a heat exchanger core.
- 9. A method of constructing a heat exchanger header tank comprising the steps of:
casting a first common end component with a formed inlet/outlet fitting having integral attachment fittings and a second common end component having integral attachment fittings; selecting a length for a formed sheet component from a plurality of predetermined lengths; cutting the sheet component to the selected length; and welding the formed sheet component intermediate the first common end component and the second end component to form the header tank.
- 10. A method of constructing a heat exchanger header tank comprising the steps of:
casting a first common end component and a second common end component, each with integral attachment fittings; casting a intermediate component including an inlet/outlet fitting; selecting a first length for a first formed sheet component and a second length for a second formed sheet component from a plurality of predetermined lengths; cutting the first and second sheet components to the selected lengths; and welding the first formed sheet component intermediate the first common end component and the intermediate component, and welding the second formed sheet component intermediate the intermediate component and the second end component to form the header tank. connecting the plurality of cast components and the at least one formed sheet component together to form a first header tank; repeating the steps above to form a second header tank; connecting the header tanks to a heat exchanger core.
