Claims
- 1. An apparatus for sorting ferrous IC devices from nonferrous IC devices comprising:
a roller having a plurality of permanent magnets; a circuitous antistatic belt having a predefined path, the belt at least partially circumscribing the roller wherein the belt is adapted to convey the ferrous and nonferrous IC devices to a location adjacent the roller.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a feeder proximate a portion of the belt wherein the feeder distributes a plurality of IC devices onto the belt at a specified rate.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the feeder includes a vibrating mechanism for motivating the plurality of IC devices from the feeder to the belt and wherein the vibrating mechanism distributes the plurality of IC devices across a width of the belt.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of permanent magnets are arranged in an alternating pattern of north and south magnetic poles.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of permanent magnets are arranged in a plurality of common pole pairs.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the plurality of common pole pairs are arranged in an alternating pattern of north and south pairs.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a first collection zone for receipt of the nonferrous IC devices.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising a second collection zone for receipt of the ferrous IC devices.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the first collection zone is located for receipt of the nonferrous IC devices as they rotate off of the roller.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the second collection zone is located for receipt of the ferrous IC devices after they are transferred from an upper side of the predefined path of the circuitous antistatic belt to an underside of the predefined path of the circuitous antistatic belt.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising a secondary conveyor adjacent the first collection zone.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the secondary conveyor includes an antistatic belt for transporting the nonferrous IC devices.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 10, further comprising a secondary conveyor adjacent the second collection zone.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the secondary conveyor includes an antistatic belt for transporting the ferrous IC devices.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the roller includes an outer shell formed of stainless steel.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the belt is formed of stainless steel.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16, including a grounding mechanism wherein electrostatic discharge is prevented between the belt and the ferrous and nonferrous IC devices.
- 18. An apparatus for sorting ferrous IC devices from nonferrous IC devices comprising:
a first roller and a second roller; a circuitous antistatic belt having a predefined path, the belt partially circumscribing the first roller and the second roller wherein the belt is adapted to convey the ferrous and nonferrous IC devices between said first and second rollers; at least one permanent magnet disposed beneath the belt and between the first and second rollers.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 18, further comprising at least one jet nozzle configured to blow air across an upper surface of the belt between the first and second rollers.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein at least one of the first roller and the second roller is configured to rotate about an axis which is set at an angle relative to a horizontal plane.
- 21. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising a vibrating mechanism configured to vibrate the belt at least between the first and second rollers.
