Claims
- 1. A method for making a collapsible bag having a first and a second plurality of ribs on oppositely disposed first and second inner bag panel sections such that when the collapsible bag collapses while dispensing liquid the first and second inner bag panel sections are prevented from sealing off liquid in an enclosed region of the collapsible bag, comprising the steps of:
- providing a first film of a polymeric material;
- providing a second film of a polymeric material having a first plurality of ribs thereon;
- aligning the second film with the first film;
- punching a hole into the first and second films for receiving a liquid dispensing spout in each subsequently formed collapsible bag;
- providing a third film of a polymeric material;
- providing a fourth film of a polymeric material having a second plurality of ribs thereon:
- aligning the first, second, third and fourth films together;
- sealing the first, second, third and fourth films together to form respective first and second bag side seals and respective top and bottom bag edge seals such that the second film defines the first inner bag panel section having the first plurality of ribs and the fourth film defines the second inner bag panel section having the second plurality of ribs; and
- cutting along one of the seals to create a plurality of individual bags having said hole for receiving said dispensing spout and having said first plurality of ribs on said first inner bag panel section oppositely disposed from said second plurality of ribs on said second inner bag panel section such that when the collapsible bag collapses while dispensing liquid said first and second plurality of ribs do not interlock with one another and said first and second inner bag panel sections are prevented from sealing off liquid in an enclosed region of the collapsible bag.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further including the steps of:
- inserting a spout into the hole; and
- sealing the spout to the first and second films.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the sealing step includes sealing parallel side edges and sealing parallel top and bottom edges; and
- wherein the method further includes the step of precrushing the first and second plurality of ribs prior to sealing the parallel top and bottom edges.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the step of precrushing the first and second plurality of ribs includes ultrasonically welding the ribs.
- 5. The method of claim 3, wherein the step of precrushing the first and second plurality of ribs includes applying heat to the ribs.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the sealing step includes sealing with a heat seal.
- 7. An apparatus for making a collapsible bag having a first and a second plurality of ribs on oppositely disposed first and second inner bag panel sections such that when the collapsible bag collapses while dispensing liquid through a dispensing spout the first and second inner bag panel sections are prevented from sealing off liquid in an enclosed region of the collapsible bag, comprising:
- means for providing a first film of a polymeric material;
- means for providing a second film of a polymeric material having a first plurality of ribs thereon;
- means for aligning the second film with the first film;
- a punch for punching a hole into the first and second films for receiving the liquid dispensing spout;
- a spout sealer for inserting the dispensing spout over the hole and sealing the spout to the first and second films;
- means for providing a third film of a polymeric material;
- means for providing a fourth film of a polymeric material having a second plurality of ribs thereon;
- means for aligning the first, second, third and fourth films together;
- a precrusher for crushing the first and second plurality of ribs;
- an edge sealer means for forming respective first and second bag side seals and respective top and bottom bag edge seals such that the second film defines the first inner bag panel section having the first plurality of ribs and the fourth film defines the second inner bag panel section having the second plurality of ribs; and
- a cutter for cutting along one of the seals to create a plurality of individual bags having said first plurality of ribs on said first inner bag panel section oppositely disposed from said second plurality of ribs on said second inner bag panel section such that when the collapsible bag collapses while dispensing liquid through said dispensing spout said first and second plurality of ribs do not interlock with one another and said first and second inner bag panels are prevented from sealing off liquid in an enclosed region of the collapsible bag.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the precrusher is an ultrasonic welder for pre-heating and melting the first and second plurality of ribs.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the precrusher is a heater for pre-heating and melting the first and second plurality of ribs.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the edge sealer includes:
- a first sealer for making a pair of parallel side seals; and
- a second sealer for making a pair of parallel end seals being perpendicular to the side seals.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the edge sealer is a heat sealer.
