Claims
- 1. In a security system comprising a wireless transmitter, a plurality of wireless receivers in wireless communication with the wireless transmitter, and a control panel connected to the wireless receivers via a data communications bus, a method of operating the security system comprising the steps of:a. a first receiver of the plurality of receivers receiving a wireless message from a wireless transmitter, converting the wireless message to a digital message and placing the digital message in an output buffer for subsequent transmission to the control panel; b. the first receiver monitoring data transmissions on the data communications bus from the control panel; c. the first receiver detecting if an acknowledgement message has been sent on the data communications bus from the control panel, said acknowledgement message indicating that the control panel has successfully received a message from any of the plurality of receivers; d. upon detecting an acknowledgement message, determining if the acknowledgement message indicates that the control panel has received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer; e. if the control panel has already received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer, then discarding the message in the first receiver output buffer; and f. if the control panel has not already received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer, then sending the message in the first receiver output buffer to the control panel.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of the control panel receiving a message on the data communications bus from a receiver; and the control panel sending an acknowledgement message on the data bus indicating that the message has been successfully received.
- 3. A security system comprising:a. a wireless transmitter, b. a plurality of wireless receivers in wireless communication with the wireless transmitter, and c. a control panel connected to the wireless receivers via a data communications bus; wherein each receiver comprises: i. means for receiving a wireless message from a wireless transmitter; ii. means for converting the wireless message to a digital message; iii. an output buffer for storing the digital message pending transmission to the control panel; iv. means for monitoring data transmissions on the data communications bus from the control panel; v. means for detecting if an acknowledgement message has been sent on the data communications bus from the control panel, said acknowledgement message indicating that the control panel has successfully received a message from any of the plurality of receivers; vi. means for determining if the acknowledgement message indicates that the control panel has received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the output buffer; vii. means for discarding the message in the output buffer if the control panel has already received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the output buffer; and viii. means for sending the message in the output buffer to the control panel if the control panel has not already received a message from another receiver identical to the message in the first receiver output buffer.
- 4. The security system of claim 2 wherein the control panel comprises:means for receiving a message on the data communications bus from a receiver; and means for sending an acknowledgement message on the data bus indicating that the message has been successfully received.
- 5. In a security system comprising a wireless transmitter, a plurality of wireless receivers in wireless communication with the wireless transmitter, and a control panel connected to the wireless receivers via a data communications bus, a method of operating the security system comprising the steps of:a. a first receiver of the plurality of receivers receiving a first wireless message, converting the first wireless message to a first digital message and sending the first digital message to the control panel; b. a second receiver of the plurality of receivers receiving a second wireless message, converting the second wireless message to a second digital message and placing the second digital message in an output buffer for subsequent transmission to the control panel; c. the control panel receiving the first digital message from the first receiver; d. the control panel sending an acknowledgement message on the data bus indicating that the first digital message has been successfully received; e. the second receiver monitoring data transmissions on the data communications bus from the control panel; f. the second receiver detecting the acknowledgement message on the data communications bus; g. the second receiver determining if the acknowledgement message indicates that first digital message received by the control panel is identical to the second digital message in the output buffer of the second receiver; h. if the acknowledgement message indicates that first digital message received by the control panel is identical to the second digital message in the output buffer of the second receiver, then discarding the message in the output buffer of the second receiver; and i. if the acknowledgement message indicates that first digital message received by the control panel is not identical to the second digital message in the output buffer of the second receiver, then sending the second digital message from the output buffer of the second receiver to the control panel.
