Claims
- 1. A cytology collection apparatus comprising:
- a housing defining a chamber;
- first and second ports defining a flow path through the chamber, said fluid flow path having first and second branches; and
- a porous arrangment positioned across the fluid flow path, and having a collection site adapted to collect cells in a monolayer.
- 2. The cytology collection apparatus according to claim 1 wherein at least one branch of the flow path is adapted to deposit cells in a monolayer on the collection site.
- 3. The cytology collection apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the porous arrangement includes a first zone for collecting cells.
- 4. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 3 further comprising a porous arrangement having a second zone for passing fluid therethrough.
- 5. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 3 wherein the first zone is a porous medium.
- 6. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 5 wherein the porous medium is a porous membrane.
- 7. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 4 wherein the second zone is a porous medium.
- 8. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 7 wherein the porous medium is a depth filter.
- 9. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 8 wherein the depth filter comprises polypropylene or polyethylene.
- 10. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a syringe attached to the second port.
- 11. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a vacuum tube attached to the second port.
- 12. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 wherein the housing comprises first and second detachable portions.
- 13. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 wherein having a collection site adapted to collect cells comprises having a collection site adapted to collect microorganisms.
- 14. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 wherein the porous arrangement includes a first zone laminated to a second zone.
- 15. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 14 wherein a first zone comprising a polycarbonate membrane is laminated to a second zone comprising depth filter.
- 16. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 wherein the porous arrangement is disposable.
- 17. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 14 wherein the porous arrangement is disposable.
- 18. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a debris filter in fluid communication with the porous arrangement.
- 19. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 10 wherein the syringe further includes a substrate having an antibody bound to the surface thereof.
- 20. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 11 wherein the vacuum tube further includes a substrate having an antibody bound to the surface thereof.
- 21. A cytology collection apparatus comprising a housing having first and second ports defining a fluid flow path through the housing; and a porous arrangement having a first zone being adapted to collect cells and a second zone suitable for passing fluid therethrough, said first zone being positioned across the fluid flow path.
- 22. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 21 wherein the second zone is suitable for removing particulate matter from the fluid.
- 23. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 21 wherein the first zone is a polycarbonate membrane and the second zone is a depth filter.
- 24. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 21 wherein the first port is suitable for attachment to a syringe and the second port is suitable for attachment to a specimen cup.
- 25. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 21 further comprising a debris filter in fluid communication with the porous arrangement.
- 26. A cytology collection apparatus comprising:
- a first housing having an inlet and an outlet and defining a first fluid flow path between the inlet and the outlet;
- a filter for separating cells from debris positioned in the first housing across the first fluid flow path, and having a first cell collection site;
- a second housing having first and second ports defining a second fluid flow path, said first port in fluid communication with the inlet of the first housing; and
- a porous arrangement positioned in the second housing across the second fluid flow path, and having a second cell collection site adapted to collect cells in a monolayer.
- 27. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 26 wherein the outlet of the first housing is suitable for attachment to a syringe and the second port of the second housing is suitable for attachment to a specimen cup.
- 28. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 26 wherein the first housing further includes a substrate having an antibody bound to the surface thereof.
- 29. The cytology collection apparatus of claim 26 wherein having a collection site adapted to collect cells comprises having a collection site adapted to collect microorganisms.
