Claims
- 1. A method of protecting teeth on saw blades in a stack of saw blades comprising:
positioning a stack of saw blades adjacent a heat shrinking material so that at least one of a periphery of said stack or a first side of said stack is in contact with said heat shrinking material; and heating said heat shrinking material so that said heat shrinking material shrinks and covers teeth on said saw blades of said stack and forms a protective cover.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising preforming said heat shrinking material so that said heat shrinking material has first and second portions with said second portion extending from said first portion at an angle relative to said first portion so that said first and second portions are not coplanar, and wherein:
the step of positioning includes positioning said stack adjacent said preformed heat shrinking material so that at least one of said periphery of said stack or said first side of said stack is in contact with said first portion; and the step of heating includes heating said preformed heat shrinking material so that said second portion folds over said first portion and covers a portion of a second side of said stack and secures said saw blades in said stack between said first and second portions of said heat shrinking material.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of preforming said heat shrinking material includes forming said first portion of said heat shrinking material into a generally ring shaped configuration having a central opening with said second portion extending from said first portion along an outer periphery of said ring shaped first portion.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of positioning said stack includes forming said stack by positioning a first saw blade adjacent said heat shrinking material then stacking additional individual saw blades on said first saw blade until a stack of a predetermined number of saw blades is formed.
- 5. The method of 4, wherein the step of forming said stack includes positioning each saw blade on a previously positioned saw blade so that tips on said teeth of adjacent saw blades are not in contact.
- 6. The method of claim 4, wherein the step of forming said stack includes positioning said first saw blade of said stack and a last saw blade of said stack so that indicia on said first and last saw blades face outward from said stack.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein said saw blades of said stack are arranged in said stack so that tips on teeth of adjacent saw blades are not in contact.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein said saw blades of said stack are arranged in said stack so that indicia on two outermost saw blades of said stack face outward from said stack.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising attaching a tag having a security device to at least one of said protective cover or outermost saw blades of said stack, said tag spacing said security device from said stack so that said stack does not interfere with operation of said security device.
- 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising positioning an insert card on said stack so that indicia on said insert card faces outward from said stack, said step of positioning said insert card being performed prior to heating said heat shrinking material, and wherein the step of heating said heat shrinking material secures said insert card to said stack.
- 11. The method of claim 1, wherein:
the step of heating said heat shrinking material includes heating said heat shrinking material by forcing a heated fluid across said heat shrinking material.
- 12. The method of claim 1, wherein:
the step of heating said heat shrinking material includes heating said heat shrinking material with radiant heat.
- 13. The method of claim 1, wherein:
the step of heating said heat shrinking material includes heating said heat shrinking material with UV light.
- 14. The method of claim 1, wherein:
the step of heating said heat shrinking material includes the step of passing said heat shrinking material through a heat tunnel.
- 15. The method of claim 1, wherein:
the step of heating said heat shrinking material includes uniformly heating said heat shrinking material.
- 16. The method of claim 1, wherein said heat shrinking material is PVC.
- 17. A method of packaging one or more saw blades, the method comprising:
positioning at least one saw blade adjacent a heat shrinking material so that at least one of a periphery of said at least one saw blade or a first side of said at least one saw blade is in contact with said heat shrinking material; heating said heat shrinking material so that said heat shrinking material shrinks and covers teeth of said at least one saw blade thereby forming a protective cover; and attaching a tag to at least one of said protective cover or said at least one saw blade.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein said tag has a security device and the step of attaching said tag includes attaching said tag so that said security device is spaced from said at least one saw blade and said at least one saw blade does not interfere with operation of said security device.
- 19. The method of claim 17, wherein said tag has at least one aperture that allows said stack to be hung from a display device.
- 20. The method of claim 17, further comprising positioning an insert card on said at least one saw blade so that indicia on said insert card faces outward from said at least one saw blade, said step of positioning said insert card being performed prior to heating said heat shrinking material, and wherein the step of heating said heat shrinking material secures said insert card to said at least one saw blade.
- 21. The method of claim 20, wherein the step of positioning said insert card includes positioning said insert card on said at least one saw blade so that indicia on said insert card is generally aligned with indicia on said at least one saw blade.
- 22. The method of claim 20, wherein the step of positioning said insert card includes folding tabs along a periphery of said insert card so that said tabs extend along a periphery of said at least one saw blade.
- 23. The method of claim 17, wherein said heat shrinking material is PVC.
- 24. A method of packaging stacks of saw blades having protective covers comprising:
positioning a stack of saw blades adjacent a heat shrinking material so that at least one of a periphery of said stack or a first side of said stack is in contact with said heat shrinking material; heating said heat shrinking material so that said heat shrinking material shrinks and covers teeth on said saw blades of said stack thereby forming a protective cover; and placing said stack with said protective cover in a fixed dimension box along with other stacks having protective covers with an overall thickness of each stack being aligned.
- 25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:
attaching a tag having a security device to at least one of said protective cover or two outermost saw blades of said stack so that said tag extends outward from said stack and said security device is spaced from said stack; and wherein the step of placing includes placing said stacks in said box with said tags on adjacent stacks being offset.
- 26. The method of claim 25, wherein the step of placing includes placing said stacks in said box with said tags on adjacent stacks being oriented towards different corners of said box.
- 27. The method of claim 24, further comprising the step of:
preforming said heat shrinking material so that said heat shrinking material has first and second portions with said second portion extending from said first portion at an angle relative to said first portion so that said first and second portions are not co-planar, the step of preforming being done prior to performing the step of positioning said stack; and wherein the step of positioning said stack includes positioning said stack adjacent said preformed heat shrinking material so that at least one of said periphery of said stack or said first side of said stack is in contact with said first portion.
- 28. A method of packaging one or more saw blades, the method comprising:
positioning at least one saw blade adjacent a heat shrinking material so that at least one of a periphery of said at least one saw blade or a first side of said at least one saw blade is in contact with said heat shrinking material; positioning an insert card adjacent said at least one saw blade so that said insert card is in contact with said at least one saw blade and indicia on said insert card faces away from said at least one saw blade; and heating said heat shrinking material so that said heat shrinking material shrinks and covers teeth of said at least one saw blade and a portion of said insert card and forms a protective cover.
- 29. The method of claim 28, wherein the step of positioning said insert card is performed prior to performing the step of positioning said at least one saw blade.
- 30. The method of claim 28, wherein the step of positioning said insert card includes positioning said insert card so that a periphery of said insert card is aligned with said periphery of said at least one saw blade.
- 31. The method of claim 28, wherein said insert card has at least one tab, and the step of positioning said insert card includes folding said at least one tab so that said at least one tab extends along said periphery of said at least one saw blade.
- 32. A preformed protective cover for a stack of saw blades comprising:
a first portion having opposite inner and outer surfaces; a second portion having opposite inner and outer surfaces, said second portion extending from said first portion at an angle relative to said first portion so that said first and second portions are not co-planar; said first and second portions being configured and adapted to allow a stack of saw blades to be positioned in contact with said inner surface of said first portion, said stack formed by placing a plurality of saw blades adjacent to one another with a thickness of each saw blade being aligned; and said first and second portions being made from a heat shrinking material so that said second portion folds over said stack with said inner surface of said second portion facing said inner surface of said first portion and teeth on said saw blades of said stack positioned between said inner surfaces of said first and second portions when heat is applied to said first and second portions.
- 33. The cover of claim 32, wherein said first portion has a generally circular peripheral edge and said second portion extends from said first portion along said peripheral edge.
- 34. The cover of claim 33, wherein said first portion has a central opening that is generally circular.
- 35. The cover of claim 34, wherein said first and second portions form a ring shape with an annular channel between said inner surfaces of said first and second portions that retains said stack when heat is applied to said first and second portions.
- 36. The cover of claim 32, wherein said second portion extends from said first portion at generally a 90 degree angle and the cover has a generally “L” shaped cross section.
- 37. The cover of claim 32, wherein said second portion extends from said first portion at an acute angle so that said inner surface of said second portion faces said inner surface of said first portion prior to being heated.
- 38. The cover of claim 32, wherein said second portion extends from said first portion at an obtuse angle so that said inner surface of said second portion does not face said inner surface of said first portion prior to being heated.
- 39. The cover of claim 32, wherein said heat shrinking material is PVC.
- 40. A saw blade having a protective cover comprising:
at least one saw blade having opposite first and second sides, a peripheral edge and a plurality of teeth that extend along a portion of said peripheral edge; and a cover made of a heat shrinking material that shrinks and protects said teeth on said at least one saw blade when heat is applied to said cover, said cover having first and second portions with opposite inner and outer surfaces, said inner surface of said first portion being disposed against said first side of said at least one saw blade, and said second portion being folded over said first portion with said inner surface of said second portion facing said inner surface of said first portion and securing said at least one saw blade and said teeth between said first and second portions.
- 41. The saw blade of claim 40, wherein said at least one saw blade is one of a plurality of saw blades, said plurality of saw blades being stacked with a thickness of each saw blade aligned, and said teeth of said plurality of saw blades being secured between said first and second portions.
- 42. The saw blade of claim 40, wherein said first portion has a central opening that is generally circular.
- 43. The saw blade of claim 42, wherein said first and second portions form a ring shape with an annular channel between said inner surfaces of said first and second portions, and said teeth of said at least one saw blade are secured in said annular channel.
- 44. The saw blade of claim 40, further comprising:
a tag having a security device, said tag being attached to at least one of said cover or said at least one saw blade, and said tag spacing said security device from said at least one saw blade so that said at least one saw blade does not interfere with operation of said security device.
- 45. The saw blade of claim 44, wherein said tag is folded and said security device is concealed within said folded tag.
- 46. The saw blade of claim 45, wherein said tag is within an opaque portion of said folded tag.
- 47. The saw blade of claim 45, wherein said tag has an adhesive on a surface of said tag, said adhesive holding said tag in a folded position and securing said security device within said folded tag.
- 48. The saw blade of claim 44, wherein said tag is attached to said outer surfaces of said first and second portions.
- 49. The saw blade of claim 44, wherein portions of said tag that are attached to at least one of said cover or said at least one saw blade are transparent.
- 50. The saw blade of claim 49, wherein said security device is within an opaque portion of said tag.
- 51. The saw blade of claim 44, wherein said tag is attached with an adhesive.
- 52. The saw blade of claim 44, wherein said tag has an aperture that allows said at least one saw blade to be hung from a display device.
- 53. The saw blade of claim 40, further comprising:
an insert card having opposite first and second surfaces, said first surface having indicia thereon, said insert card being disposed between said at least one saw blade and said protective cover with said first surface facing away from said at least one saw blade.
- 54. The saw blade of claim 40, wherein said heat shrinking material is PVC.
- 55. A flexible tag for attachment to one or more saw blades comprising:
a security device; a flexible body having opposite first and second ends, said body having opposite inner and outer surfaces with said security device being disposed on said inner surface, said body having an adhesive portion, and said adhesive portion allowing the tag to be attached to at least one saw blade with said security device spaced from said at least one saw blade so that said at least one saw blade does not interfere with operation of said security device.
- 56. The tag of claim 55, wherein said body is folded over with a portion of said inner surface opposing a different portion of said inner surface and said security device is disposed between opposing portions of said inner surface.
- 57. The tag of claim 56, wherein said inner surface has first and second adhesive portions, at least one of said first or second adhesive portions is adhered to an opposing portion of said inner surface, and at least one of said first or second adhesive portions is configured to be attached to said saw blade.
- 58. The tag of claim 57, wherein said first and second adhesive portions are respectively adjacent said first and second ends, a midportion of said inner surface is interposed between said first and second adhesive portions, said tag is folded in said midportion, and said security device is attached to and secured within said midportion.
- 59. The tag of claim 58, wherein said first and second adhesive portions are transparent and said midportion is opaque so that said security device is concealed within said midportion.
- 60. The tag of claim 59, wherein said body is a polyester film, said first and second adhesive portions are adhesive films that are laminated to said inner surface of said polyester film, and an opaque vinyl film is laminated to said outer surface of said polyester film adjacent said midportion so that said midportion is opaque.
- 61. The tag of claim 58, wherein said midportion is colored to have a same color as a color of said security device to conceal said security device within said midportion.
- 62. The tag of claim 57, wherein said first and second adhesive portions are transparent.
- 63. The tag of claim 55, wherein said body is a polyester film.
- 64. The tag of claim 55, wherein said body has an aperture that allows said saw blade to be hung by the tag from a display device.
- 65. The tag of claim 55, wherein said adhesive portion is transparent.
- 66. The tag of claim 55, wherein said body is opaque where said security device is attached to said inner surface.
- 67. An insert card for packaging with one or more saw blades comprising:
a body having opposite inner and outer surfaces, said outer surface having indicia thereon, said body having a peripheral edge, and said body being configured to be positioned on a saw blade with said inner surface facing said saw blade and a portion of said peripheral edge being generally aligned with a periphery of said saw blade.
- 68. The insert card of claim 67, wherein said body has at least one tab that extends from said portion of said peripheral edge, said tab being configured to be fold to extend along said periphery of said saw blade and help secure the insert card to said saw blade.
- 69. The insert card of claim 68, wherein said body is configured to be positioned on a first side of said saw blade and said at least one tab is dimensioned to be folded over an edge of said saw blade and extend along a second side of said saw blade opposite said first side.
- 70. The insert card of claim 67, wherein said saw blade is a circular saw blade and said body is substantially semi-circular in shape.
- 71. The insert card of claim 67, wherein said body is SBS board.
