Claims
- 1. A method of piecing a reserve roving to a production roving located in an operating position, on textile machines comprising the steps of:
- (a) bringing a reserve roving into a stand-by position;
- (b) imparting an increasing twisting force to a first roving section of each of the production roving and the reserve roving to form a substantially parallel orientation of the fibers in a second roving section adjacent to the first roving section of each said production roving and said reserve roving;
- (c) severing the production roving and the reserve roving in the second roving section of each said production roving and said reserve roving;
- (d) suddenly removing the increasing twisting force, thus causing roving end sections of both the production roving and the reserve roving to decrease their twist and simultaneously bringing together said roving end sections so that both said roving end sections join to one another; and
- (e) bringing the reserve roving into the operating position.
- 2. The method as defined in claim 1, further including the step of:
- using air for imparting the increasing twisting force and for the severing of the production roving and the reserve roving.
- 3. The method as defined in claim 1, further including the steps of:
- monitoring the production roving to ascertain a predeterminate state of minimum supply of said production roving; and
- upon determining the presence of said predeterminate state of minimum supply of the production roving generating a signal for initiating the aforesaid method steps (b) to (e) starting with the step of increasing the twisting force.
- 4. The method as defined in claim 1, further including the steps of:
- monitoring the production roving to ascertain a predeterminate state of said production roving; and
- upon determining the existence of said predeterminate state of the production roving initiating the method steps (b) to (e) starting with the step of increasing the twisting force.
- 5. A method of piecing a reserve fiber stock to a production fiber stock located in an operating position, on textile machines, comprising the steps of:
- bringing a reserve fiber stock into a stand-by position;
- imparting a predeterminate twisting force to a first section of each of the production fiber stock and the reserve fiber stock to impart a predeterminate condition of the fibers in a second section adjacent to the first section of each said production fiber stock and said reserve fiber stock;
- severing both the production fiber stock and the reserve fiber stock;
- removing the predeterminate twisting force, thus causing end sections of both the production fiber stock and the reserve fiber stock to decrease their twist and simultaneously bringing together both end sections of the production fiber stock and the reserve fiber stock so that both said end sections are pieced to one another; and
- bringing the reserve fiber stock into the operating position.
- 6. An apparatus for piecing a reserve roving to a production roving on textile machines comprising:
- a lower part provided with two roving exit channels;
- an upper part provided with two roving intake channels and rotatable relative to the lower part;
- said lower and upper parts being positioned adjacent one another for cooperation with on another;
- said lower part having positioned therein an intersection zone;
- each of said channels leading into said intersection zone positioned in the lower part;
- a roving twisting means provided for one intake channel through which passes a roving momentarily serving as the reserve roving;
- one of said roving exit channels being positioned opposite said one intake channel provided for the reserve roving;
- a roving twisting means provided for the roving exit channel positioned opposite said one intake channel and through which passes a roving momentarily serving as the production roving;
- a roving severing means provided for the other intake channel;
- the other of said exit channels being positioned opposite said other intake channel; and
- a roving severing means provided for the other exit channel which is positioned opposite said other intake channel.
- 7. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, wherein:
- said roving twisting means and said roving severing means each comprise air ducts; and
- said air ducts for the twisting of said rovings enter into the respective channels thereof substantially tangentially.
- 8. The apparatus as defined in claim 7, further including:
- a closable air exit provided in said intersection zone.
- 9. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, further including:
- an air suction nozzle provided for said other exit channel through which extends part of said reserve roving.
- 10. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, further including:
- gripping means arranged forwardly of said one intake channel for said reserve roving.
- 11. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, further including:
- monitoring means for monitoring said production roving and operatively connected with said roving twisting means and said roving severing means.
- 12. The apparatus as defined in claim 6, wherein:
- said channels have an essentially identical and uniform diameter; and
- said diameter amounting to approximately two to three times the roving diameter.
- 13. An apparatus for piecing a reserve fiber stock to a production fiber stock, comprising:
- a pair of relatively movable abutting body portions;
- one of said two relatively movable abutting body portions being provided with two fiber stock exit channels;
- the other of said two relatively movable abutting body portions being provided with two fiber stock intake channels;
- at least one of said two relatively movable abutting body portions having positioned therein at least part of an intersection zone;
- each of said intake and exit channels leading into said intersection zone;
- a fiber stock twisting means provided for one intake channel through which passes a fiber stock momentarily serving as a reserve fiber stock;
- one of said exit channels being positioned opposite said one intake channel provided for the reserve fiber stock;
- a fiber stock twisting means provided for the one exit channel positioned opposite said one intake channel and through which passes a fiber stock momentarily serving as a production fiber stock;
- a fiber stock severing means provided for the other intake channel;
- the other of said exit channels being positioned opposite said other intake channel; and
- a roving severing means provided for the other exit channel which is positioned opposite said other intake channel.
