Claims
- 1. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system comprising:
(a) transmitting an impulse radio signal from a first transceiver; (b) receiving said impulse radio signal at a second transceiver; (c) determining at least one performance measurement of said received impulse radio signal; and (d) controlling output power of at least one of said first transceiver and said second transceiver in accordance with said at least one performance measurement.
- 2. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system as recited in claim 1 wherein said at least one performance measurement is selected from a group of performance measurements consisting of bit error rate, signal-to-noise ratio and received signal strength.
- 3. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system as recited in claim 1 wherein said controlling said output power comprises controlling integration gain.
- 4. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system as recited in claim 1 wherein said controlling said output power comprises controlling pulse peak power of a further impulse radio signal.
- 5. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system as recited in claim 1 wherein said controlling said output power comprises controlling pulse height of a further impulse radio signal.
- 6. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system as recited in claim 1 wherein said controlling said output power comprises controlling a quantity of pulses per bit of information.
- 7. A method for power control in an ultra wideband impulse radio system as recited in claim 1 wherein said controlling said output power comprises controlling a quantity of pulses per period of time.
- 8. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver for communicating with a second ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver; the ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver comprising:
(a) an impulse radio transmitter; (b) an impulse radio receiver; said impulse radio receiver receiving an impulse radio signal from said second ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver; and (c) a power controller; said power controller controlling output power of said impulse radio transmitter according to at least one performance measurement.
- 9. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein the ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver further comprises:
(d) a signal evaluator; said signal evaluator determining said at least one performance measurement of said received impulse radio signal.
- 10. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein said at least one performance measurement is selected from a group consisting of bit error rate, signal-to-noise ratio and received signal power.
- 11. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein said power controller controls the output power by controlling integration gain of said impulse radio receiver.
- 12. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein said power controller controls the output power by controlling pulse peak power of impulse signals transmitted by said impulse radio transmitter.
- 13. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein said power controller controls the output power by controlling pulse height of impulse signals transmitted by said impulse radio transmitter.
- 14. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein said power controller controls the output power by controlling quantity of pulses per bit of information of impulse signals transmitted by said impulse radio transmitter.
- 15. An ultra wideband impulse radio transceiver as recited in claim 8 wherein said power controller controls the output power by controlling quantity of pulses transmitted by said impulse radio transmitter within a time period.
