Claims
- 1. A roller for use in handling debris generating media in an imaging device, the roller comprising a rotatable cylindrical member having an outer relief surface for engaging the media, the relief surface covering at least an area of engagement with the media.
- 2. The roller of claim 1, wherein the relief surface comprises a braided fiber sheath covering the cylindrical member.
- 3. The roller of claim 2, wherein the fiber sheath is secured to the cylindrical member.
- 4. The roller of claim 3, wherein the fiber is polyester.
- 5. The roller of claim 3, wherein the sheath is an expandable braided polyester sleeve.
- 6. The roller of claim 1, comprising a compliant material layer disposed between the cylindrical member and the relief surface.
- 7. The roller of claim 1, wherein the relief surface comprises a pattern formed directly in the relief surface of the cylindrical member.
- 8. The roller of claim 1, comprising a compliant material layer encasing the cylindrical member and wherein the relief surface is formed in the compliant material, the compliant material extending over at least the area of engagement with the media.
- 9. The roller of claim 1, used for guiding the media onto an imaging drum.
- 10. The roller of claim 1, used for guiding the media off of an imaging drum.
- 11. The roller of claim 1, wherein two or more rollers are used for guiding the media in an imaging device, at least one of the rollers having a relief surface.
- 12. An imaging device comprising a media support surface and a mechanism for guiding media onto the media support surface, the mechanism comprising at least one roller disposed to contact an emulsion layer of media being loaded onto the media support surface, the roller comprising a rotatable cylindrical member having a relief surface covering at least an area of engagement of the cylindrical member with the media.
- 13. An imaging device as claimed in claim 12 wherein the relief surface is provided at least in part by a raised sheath extending around an outer surface of the cylindrical member.
- 14. An imaging device as claimed in claim 13 wherein the braided sheath has a hardness greater that a hardness of the outer surface of the cylindrical member.
- 15. An imaging device as claimed in claim 13 wherein the braided sheath comprises a polyester material.
- 16. An imaging device as claimed in claim 13 wherein the braided sheath comprises a polyethylene material.
