- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein FY is a constant determined by the relationship of a predetermined yield prediction technique to a predetermined yield determination technique.
- 3. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the removed blood to a blood container prior to the processing step.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the separating step further comprises separating the blood into components in a centrifuge.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the separating step comprises an on-line continuous process wherein the removed blood is separated into components in the centrifuge.
- 6. The method of claim 1 further comprising determining the EC, platelet collection efficiency, from one or more of the followinga) the ratio of anticoagulant to removed blood used in the separating step; b) the donor hematocrit; c) the inlet flow rate of the blood component separation device; and d) processing information as to whether the blood processing step is a single-needle or dual needle procedure.
- 7. The method of claim 1 further comprising determining the fBP, fraction of VB processed in the procedure, froma) the anticoagulant rate constant for addition of anticoagulant to the removed blood; b) the ratio of anticoagulant to removed blood in the processing step; c) the volume of platelets collected in the separating step; d) the inlet flow rate of blood to the blood component separation device; e) the amount of time utilized for the processing of the removed blood; and f) the amount, if any, of plasma concurrently collected by the blood component separation device.
- 8. A method for determining a determined platelet yield in a platelet collection procedure comprisingproviding parameters indicative of the platelet collection procedure; determining a predetermined predicted platelet yield; determining a predetermined platelet yield determination; calculating a calibration factor from the relationship of the predetermined predicted platelet yield to the predetermined platelet yield determination; applying the calibration factor to the parameters to determine the determined platelet yield.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the predetermined platelet yield determination is determined off-line of the processing procedure.
- 10. A method for determining a determined platelet yield in a platelet collection procedure comprisingproviding parameters indicative of the platelet collection procedure; determining a monitored platelet yield; determining a predetermined platelet yield determination; calculating a calibration factor from the relationship of the monitored platelet yield to the predetermined platelet yield determination; applying the calibration factor to the parameters to determine the determined platelet yield.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein the predetermined platelet yield determination is determined off-line of the platelet collection procedure.
- 12. A method for providing a blood component product having a determined yield pursuant to at least one yield determination technique, comprising:harvesting a plurality of a predetermined type of a blood component from a source of blood; providing a first set of predetermined information relating to said source of blood; providing a second set of predetermined information relating to said harvesting; generating a predicted yield value based upon said first and second sets of predetermined information; providing a calibration factor based upon said predicted yield value in relation to a predetermined yield determination technique; generating said determined yield, utilizing at least in part an application of said first calibration factor to said predicted yield value.
