Claims
- 1. A particulate filter for filtering the particulate matter contained in a medium of a rearing means for rearing post-larvae shrimp comprising:
- a rotatably mounted hollow body having a pair of end walls which are impermeable to said medium and sidewalls which are substantially permeable to said medium and substantially impermeable to said particulate matter, whereby particulate matter is collected on the inner surfaces of said sidewalls when said medium is passed therethrough;
- means for introducing said medium into said body;
- means disposed within said body at a level above the level at which said medium is introduced for receiving particulate matter dislodged from said sidewalls and for carrying said received particulate matter out of said body;
- means for directing fluid at the outer surfaces of said sidewalls which are at a level above the level of said means for receiving dislodged particulate matter from said sidewalls;
- means for rotating said body;
- and means responsive to the medium level in said body for actuating said means for directing fluid and said means for rotating.
- 2. A particulate filter in accordance with claim 1 wherein:
- said hollow body is a drum whose cylindrical wall forms said sidewalls.
- 3. A particulate filter for filtering the particulate matter contained in the medium of a rearing means for rearing post-larvae shrimp comprising:
- a conduit having an input end for receiving said medium and an output end for discharging said particulate matter;
- a drum whose end walls are impermeable to said medium and whose sidewalls are substantially permeable to said medium and substantially impermeable to said particulate matter, whereby particulate matter is collected on the inner surfaces of said sidewalls when said medium is passed therethrough;
- a first feed pipe connected to said conduit downstream from said input end and at a point within said drum;
- a solid plate disposed within said conduit so as to block passage of said medium therethrough, said plate being disposed downstream from said feed pipe, whereby all the medium received by said conduit is forced to flow through said feed pipe and into said drum;
- tray means disposed above said conduit for receiving particulate matter dislodged from said sidewalls of said drum;
- a second feed pipe connecting said tray means to said conduit downstream of said plate, whereby particulate matter received by said tray means is carried by said second feed pipe into said conduit and arrives at said discharge end;
- means for directing fluid at the outer surfaces of said sidewalls situated above said tray means for dislodging particulate matter from said sidewalls;
- means for rotating said drum relative to said conduit and said tray means;
- and means responsive to the medium level in said drum for actuating said means for directing fluid and said means for rotating.
- 4. A system in accordance with claim 3 wherein: said means for directing fluid comprises:
- a spray bar disposed above and extending along the axis of said drum;
- and a solenoid valve connected to said spray bar; said means for rotating comprises:
- a motor;
- and a sprocket wheel drive responsive to said motor and connected to one end wall of said drum;
- and said means responsive to said medium level comprises:
- a float switch mounted on said conduit and electrically connected to said solenoid valve and said motor.
- 5. A system in accordance with claim 3 wherein: said sidewalls of said drum are formed from a mesh net.
