Claims
- 1. An improved apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise in a hydraulic system, said apparatus forming a passage and comprising:
- a first, a second and a third conduit member, said first, second and third conduit members having circumferential walls of predetermined internal bore diameters, said walls being formed of a compliant material permitting volumetrical expansion of portions of said passage comprised therein in response to an increase in pressure;
- first and second inductive flow members each having a bore and a pair of ends, one of said pair of ends of said first inductive flow member being connected to one end of said first conduit member and another end of said first inductive flow member being connected to one end of said second conduit member, one of said pair of ends of said second inductive flow member being connected to an other end of said second conduit member and an other end of said second inductive flow member being connected to one end of said third conduit member, said bores having diameters smaller than said predetermined bore diameters of said first, second and third conduit members to restrict alternating flow of said fluid from said first conduit member to said second conduit member and from said second conduit member to said third conduit member;
- an input member connected to an other end of said first conduit member to permit introduction of a flow of fluid into said passage; and
- an output member connected to an other end of said third conduit member to permit delivery of said flow of fluid from said passage to remaining portions of said hydraulic system.
- 2. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise of claim 1, wherein each of said first, second and third conduit members comprise a volumetrically compliant hose section.
- 3. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise of claim 1, wherein each of said first and second inductive flow members comprises a tube having a bore formed with flared ends for enabling smooth fluid entry or exit from each conduit member and minimizing overall pressure loss of said apparatus.
- 4. A modified apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise in a hydraulic system, said apparatus forming a passage and comprising:
- a first, a second and a third conduit member, said first, second and third conduit members having circumferential walls of predetermined internal bore diameters, said walls being formed of a compliant material permitting volumetrical expansion of portions of said passage comprised therein in response to an increase in pressure;
- a resistive element located within said second conduit member;
- first and second inductive flow members each having a bore and a pair of ends, one of said pair of ends of said first inductive flow member being connected to one end of said first conduit member and another end of said first inductive flow member being connected to one end of said second conduit member, one of said pair of ends of said second inductive flow member being connected to an other end of said second conduit member and an other end of said second inductive flow member being connected to one end of said third conduit member, said bores having diameters smaller than said predetermined bore diameters of said first, second and third conduit members to restrict alternating flow of said fluid from said first conduit member to said second conduit member and from said second conduit member to said third conduit member;
- an input member connected to an other end of said first conduit member to permit introduction of a flow of fluid into said passage; and
- an output member connected to an other end of said third conduit member to permit delivery of said flow of fluid from said passage to remaining portions of said hydraulic system.
- 5. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise of claim 4, wherein each of said first, second and third conduit members comprise a volumetrically compliant hose section.
- 6. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise of claim 4, wherein each of said first and second inductive flow members comprises a tube having a bore formed with flared ends for enabling smooth fluid entry or exit from each conduit member and minimizing overall pressure loss of said apparatus.
- 7. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid borne noise of claim 4, wherein said resistive element comprises a nozzle.
- 8. An improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise in a hydraulic system, said apparatus including a modified pump having an inner cavity and a filter section forming a passage therefrom, said improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise comprising:
- a first fitting hydraulically coupled to said inner cavity of said pump;
- a first conduit member having an inner end connected to said first fitting, said first conduit member having a circumferential wall of predetermined internal bore diameter and predetermined length, said wall being formed of a compliant material permitting volumetrical expansion thereof in response to an increase in pressure, said first conduit having a plug mounted to an opposite end;
- a second fitting hydraulically coupled to an output port of said pump;
- an input member of said filter section having one end connected to said second fitting to permit introduction of a flow of fluid into said passage; and
- an output member of said filter section to permit delivery of said flow of fluid from said passage to remaining portions of said hydraulic system.
- 9. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise of claim 8, wherein said filter section further comprises:
- a second conduit member having one end connected to an other end of said input member and a third conduit member having one end connected to said output member, said second and third conduit members having circumferential walls of predetermined internal bore diameters, said walls being formed of a compliant material permitting volumetrical expansion of portions of said passage comprised therein in response to an increase in pressure; and
- an inductive flow member having a bore and a pair of ends, one of said pair of ends of said inductive flow member being connected to an other end of said first conduit member and another end of said inductive flow member being connected to an other end of said second conduit member, said bore having a diameter smaller than said predetermined bore diameters of said second and third conduit members to restrict alternating flow of said fluid from said second conduit member to said third conduit member.
- 10. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise of claim 9, wherein each of said first, second and third conduit members comprise a volumetrically compliant hose section.
- 11. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise of claim 9, wherein said input member of said filter section is an inductive flow member comprising a bore having a diameter smaller than said predetermined bore diameters of said second and third conduit members to restrict alternating flow of said fluid from said pump to said second conduit member.
- 12. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise of claim 11, wherein said input member and said inductive flow member comprise tubes having bores formed with flared ends for enabling smooth fluid entry or exit from said second fitting, and said second and third conduit members, and minimizing overall pressure loss of said apparatus.
- 13. The improved apparatus for reduction of fluid and structure borne noise of claim 9, wherein a resistive element is located within said second conduit member.
- 14. A method for reducing fluid borne noise in a hydraulic system, said method comprising the steps of:
- passing a flow of fluid through a first volumetrically compliant member to bypass a majority of alternating fluid flow components of a hydraulic signal;
- passing said flow of fluid from said first volumetrically compliant member through a first inductive flow member to impede transmission of remaining alternating fluid flow components beyond said first volumetrically compliant member;
- passing said flow of fluid from said first inductive flow member through a second volumetrically compliant member to bypass a majority of said remaining alternating fluid flow components;
- passing said flow of fluid from said second volumetrically compliant member through a second inductive flow member to impede further transmission of yet remaining alternating fluid flow components beyond said second volumetrically compliant member; and
- passing said flow of fluid from said second inductive flow member through a third volumetrically compliant member to substantially bypass all of said yet remaining alternating fluid flow components.
- 15. The method for reducing fluid borne noise of claim 14, said method additionally comprising the step of passing said flow of fluid through said second volumetrically compliant member through a flow resistance introduced therein to eliminate the possibility of a deleterious resonance.
- 16. A method for reducing fluid and structure borne noise in a hydraulic system, said method comprising the steps of:
- hydraulically coupling internal output ports of a pump to a first volumetrically compliant member to bypass a majority of alternating fluid flow components of a hydraulic signal issuing therefrom; and
- passing a flow of fluid from said pump to a filter member to substantially bypass all of remaining alternating fluid flow components.
- 17. The method for reducing fluid and structure borne noise of claim 16 wherein within said filter member, said method additionally comprises the steps of:
- passing said flow of fluid from said pump through an inductive input flow member to impede transmission of remaining alternating fluid flow components from said pump;
- passing said flow of fluid from said inductive input flow member through a second volumetrically compliant member to bypass a majority of said remaining alternating fluid flow components;
- passing said flow of fluid from said second volumetrically compliant member through an other inductive flow member to impede further transmission of yet remaining alternating fluid flow components beyond said second volumetrically compliant member; and
- passing said flow of fluid from said an other inductive flow member through a third volumetrically compliant member to substantially bypass all of said yet remaining alternating fluid flow components.
- 18. The method for reducing fluid and structure borne noise in hydraulic systems of claim 17, said method additionally comprising the step of passing said flow of fluid through said second volumetrically compliant member through a flow resistance introduced therein to eliminate the possibility of a deleterious resonance.
