Claims
- 1. In an apparatus for making plastic bags from a continuous film of material comprising a sealing drum having at least one seal bar for imparting transverse seals to the film at regularly spaced intervals and a perforator having a rotatable perforator blade for imparting transverse perforations to the film at regularly spaced intervals, the film comprising print marks appearing at regularly spaced intervals, the improvement comprising:
- means for detecting the location of the seals;
- means for generating a signal representative of the location of each detected seal;
- means for determining a location a perforation will be placed;
- means for determining the distance between the seal location and the perforation location;
- means for comparing the difference between the determined distance and a desired distance; and
- means responsive to the comparing means for adjusting the position of the perforator blade in response to the difference.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the means for detecting includes an optical sensor disposed to detect a seal in the film.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 further including a motor coupled to the perforator, and wherein the controller controls the position of the perforator in response to the signal.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the optical sensor emits radiation directed to the film, and the radiation is incident to the film at an angle of 77.5 degrees or less.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the film includes printed registration marks, and further including means for registering the seal to the printed registration marks.
- an optical sensor disposed to detect a seal in the film; and
- a controller connected to receive an input from the sensor, and connected to control the perforator, wherein the location of the perforation is controlled in response to the location of the seal.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6 further including a motor coupled to the perforator, and wherein the controller controls the motor.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the optical sensor emits radiation directed to the film, and the radiation is incident to the film at an angle of 77.5 degrees or less.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the film includes printed registration marks, and further including means for registering the seal to the printed registration marks.
