Claims
- 1. A method for providing a feedforward correction signal to a drive mechanism of a rotatable actuator in a disk storage device, comprising the steps of:
- generating a reference feedforward correction signal at each of a plurality of sectors around a predetermined reference track on a disk surface, said reference feedforward correction signal varying periodically as a function of angular position of the disk;
- identifying a specific selected track;
- calculating the change in the radial line to a transducer head at said specific selected track compared to the radial line with the transducer head at the predetermined reference track;
- modifying both magnitude and phase of said generated reference feedforward correction sign responsive to said identified specific selected track according to the calculated change in radial line.
- 2. A method for providing a feedforward correction signal to a drive mechanism of a rotatable actuator in a disk storage device, comprising the steps of:
- generating a reference feedforward correction signal at each of a plurality of sectors around a predetermined reference track on a disk surface, said reference feedforward correction signal varying periodically as a function of angular position of the disk;
- identifying a specific selected track on the disk surface;
- determining the change in the radial line to a transducer head at said specific selected track compared to the radial line with the transducer head at the predetermined reference track; and
- modifying said generated reference feedforward correction signal responsive to said identified specific selected track according to the change in the radial line.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of modifying said generated reference feedforward correction signal comprises the step of modifying the magnitude of said generated reference feedforward correction signal according to the change in the radial line.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of modifying said generated reference feedforward correction signal comprises the step of modifying the phase of said generated reference feedforward correction signal according to the change in the radial line.
- 5. A servo control apparatus comprising:
- a mechanism that generates a reference feedforward correction signal at each of a plurality of sectors around a predetermined reference track on a disk surface, said reference feedforward correction signal varying periodically as a function of angular position of the disk;
- a mechanism that identifies a specific selected track on the disk surface;
- a mechanism that determines the change in the radial line to a transducer head at said specific selected track compared to the radial line with the transducer head at the predetermined reference track; and
- a mechanism that modifies said generated reference feedforward correction signal responsive to said identified specific selected track according to the change in the radial line.
- 6. The servo control apparatus of claim 5 wherein the mechanism that modifies said generated reference feedforward correction signal modifies the magnitude of said generated reference feedforward correction signal according to the change in the radial line.
- 7. The servo control apparatus of claim 5 wherein the mechanism that modifies said generated reference feedforward correction signal modifies the phase of said generated reference feedforward correction signal according to the change in the radial line.
- 8. A disk drive apparatus comprising:
- at least one disk having at least one recording surface for recording data when the disk rotates about a disk axis;
- a rotatable actuator that supports at least one respective transducer head to access data recorded on the at least one recording surface, the rotatable actuator having an axis of rotation parallel to the disk axis;
- a servo control system that rotates said actuator to position the transducer head, the servo control system comprising:
- (a) a mechanism that generates a reference feedforward correction signal at each of a plurality of sectors around a predetermined reference track on a disk surface, said reference feedforward correction signal varying periodically as a function of angular position of the disk;
- (b) a mechanism that identifies a specific selected track on the disk surface;
- (c) a mechanism that determines the change in the radial line to a transducer head at said specific selected track compared to the radial line with the transducer head at the predetermined reference track; and
- (d) a mechanism that modifies said generated reference feedforward correction signal responsive to said identified specific selected track according to the change in the radial line.
- 9. The disk drive apparatus of claim 8 wherein the servo control system positions the transducer head in response to the change in the radial line.
