Claims
- 1. A method for interoperating between a device (11a) operable in a first network (11) and a device (12a) operable in a second network (12), the first network (11) having a first server (11b) for communicating with the first device (11a) using a first protocol (SIP) requiring that a message have a request uniform resource identifier including an address scheme, the second network (12) having a second server (12b) for communicating with other servers in said second network (12) using a second protocol (SSP) and with the second device (12a) using a third protocol (CSP; CLP) possibly different from the second protocol (SSP), the method characterized by the steps of:
a step (41) of converting a message constructed according to said first protocol (SIP) but having as the address scheme a value (“wv:”) indicating a protocol of the second network (12) to a message in which the address scheme has instead a value (“sip:”) indicating the protocol of the first network (11), and the message also having a user uniform resource locator parameter with a value (“wv”) indicating a protocol of the second network (12); and a step (42) of transmitting the converted message on a communication path leading to a gateway element (14).
- 2. A method as in claim 1, wherein said first device (11a) performs said step of converting said message.
- 3. A method as in claim 1, wherein said first server (11b) performs said step of converting said message.
- 4. A method as in claim 1, further characterized by a step (5255) of translating to said second protocol (SSP) or to said third protocol (CSP; CLP) said converted message received according to said first protocol (SIP) from said first server (11b) or to said third protocol said message received from said first device (lla) without using said first server (11b), and communicating said translated message to said second network (12).
- 5. A method as in claim 4, wherein said first network (11) is an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network, and said step (52-55) of translating is performed by an Application Server (14) connected to said first network (11).
- 6. A method as in claim 4, wherein said first network (11) is an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network, and said step (52-55) of translating is performed by a gateway (14a) accessible to an Application Server (14) connected to said first network (11).
- 7. A method as in claim 4, wherein said first network (11) is an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network including call state control function entities (11b), and said step (52-55) of translating is performed by a gateway (14a) accessible to the IMS network entities (11b) connected to said first network (11).
- 8. A device, operable according to the method of operation of the first device (11a) as recited in claim 2.
- 9. A server, operable according to the method of operation of the first server (11b) as recited in claim 3.
- 10. An apparatus (14a), comprising means for performing the step (52-55) recited in claim 4 of translating said converted message to said second protocol (SSP) or to said third protocol (CSP; CLP).
- 11. A system, comprising: a first device (lla), a first server (11b), and an apparatus (14a) as in claim 10, the first device (11a) operable in a first network (11) and able to interoperate with a device (12a) operable in a second network (12), the first network (11) including the first server (11b) for communicating with the first device (11a) using a first protocol (SIP) requiring that a message have a request uniform resource identifier including an address scheme, the second network (12) having a second server (12b) for communicating with other servers in said second network (12) using a second protocol (SSP) and with the second device (12a) using a third protocol (CSP; CLP) possibly different from the second protocol (SSP), either the first device (lla) or the first server (11b) comprising:
means for performing a step (41) of converting a message constructed according to said first protocol (SIP) but having as the address scheme a value (“wv:”) indicating a protocol of the second network (12) to a message in which the address scheme has instead a value (“sip:”) indicating the protocol of the first network (11), and the message also having a user uniform resource locator parameter with a value (“wv”) indicating a protocol of the second network (12); and means for performing a step (42) of transmitting the converted message on a communication path leading to a gateway element (14).
