Claims
- 1. An apparatus for securely setting gems in jewelry through the use of screws and other securing means comprising:
a cavity for retaining gems to be set in said jewelry; at least one screw hole in said cavity; at least one screw; a plurality of gem holes surrounding said screw holes; and at least two grooved slots in said cavity for supporting and stabilizing the gems to be set in said cavity of the jewelry.
- 2. The jewelry of claim 1, wherein said jewelry is a ring.
- 3. The ring of claim 2, wherein
said plurality of gem holes surrounding each screw hole is equal to four gem holes; said cavity further comprises a first wall, second wall, third wall, fourth wall and a base, each of said walls having a top edge, a bottom edge, a left edge and a right edge, and said base having four edges; said bottom edge of each of said first, second, third and fourth walls being connected to said edges of said base forming an enclosed boundary of said cavity in which the gems may be set, said first wall and said third wall being substantially parallel to each other and of substantially equal length and said second wall and said fourth wall being substantially parallel to each other and of substantially equal length; and said grooved slots being located in said first and third walls of said cavity.
- 4. The ring of claim 3, wherein
said first and third walls are of a sufficient length and height capable of housing a desired number of gems to be set in said ring; said second and fourth walls are of a sufficient length and height capable of housing the desired number of gems; and said base of said cavity further comprises
a plurality of screw holes, said screw holes being sufficiently spaced apart so that four gems may be securely set around each of said screw holes, four gem holes surrounding each of said screw holes, said gem holes being sufficiently spaced so that four gems may be securely set by one of said screws.
- 5. The ring of claim 4, wherein the cavity contains seven screw holes and sixteen gem holes.
- 6. The ring of claim 4, wherein the gems to be set in said ring may be of any combination of precious gems including diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
- 7. The ring of claim 4, wherein the gems to be set in said ring may be any combination of semi-precious gems.
- 8. The ring of claim 4, wherein said screw is gold or silver.
- 9. The jewelry of claim 1, wherein said jewelry is an earring.
- 10. The earring of claim 9, wherein
said plurality of gem holes surrounding each screw hole is equal to four gem holes; said cavity further comprises a first wall, second wall, third wall, fourth wall and a base, each of said walls having a top edge, a bottom edge, a left edge and a right edge, and said base having four edges; said bottom edge of each of said first, second, third and fourth wall being connected to said edges of said base forming an enclosed boundary of said cavity in which the gems may be set, said first wall and said third wall being substantially parallel to each other and of substantially equal length and said second wall and said fourth wall being substantially parallel to each other and of substantially equal length; and said grooved slots being located on an upper portion of said first, second, third and fourth walls of said cavity.
- 11. The earring of claim 10, wherein
said first and third walls are of a sufficient length and height capable of housing a desired number of gems to be set in said earring; said second and fourth walls being of a sufficient length and height capable of housing the desired number of gems; and said base of said cavity further comprises
a plurality of screw holes, said screw holes being sufficiently spaced apart so that four gems may be securely set around each of said screw holes, four gem holes surrounding each of said screw holes, said gem holes being sufficiently spaced so that four gems may be securely set by one of said screws.
- 12. The earring of claim 11, wherein the cavity contains one screw hole and four gem holes.
- 13. The earring of claim 11, wherein the gems to be set in said ring may be of any combination of precious gems including diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
- 14. The earring of claim 11, wherein the gems to be set in said earring may be any combination of semi-precious gems.
- 15. The earring of claim 11, wherein said screw is gold or silver.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said jewelry is a bracelet or a locket.
- 17. A method for setting gems in jewelry through the use of screws comprising the steps of:
obtaining jewelry with a cavity comprising
at least one screw hole, at least one set of gem holes surrounding each of said screw holes, and at least two grooved slots; placing gems in each set of gem holes so that the gems surround each screw hole; positioning each gem so the gem's edges rest securely in said grooved slots; inserting a screw into each of said screw holes; and tightening said screw so that the gems are securely set in said jewelry.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein said set of gem holes is equal to four gem holes.
- 19. The method of claim 17, wherein said jewelry is a ring and the number of gems set in said ring is at least four.
- 20. The method of claim 17, wherein said jewelry is earrings and the number of gems to be set in said earrings is at least four.
