Claims
- 1. A method of producing an embossed structure on a planar workpiece, comprising the steps of
- (a) driving a spaced pair of opposed endless belts of a double-belt pressing mechanism, the opposed portions of said belts being driven in the same direction;
- (b) applying raised textured components onto the outer surface of at least one of said driven belts;
- (c) passing a workpiece between the opposed portions of said belts, said textured components on said one belt surface contacting a surface of the workpiece; and
- (d) pressing said endless belts together to press said textured components against said workpiece surface and transfer said components from said belt surface to said workpiece surface while said workpiece is driven between said belts.
- 2. A method as defined in claim 1, and further comprising the step of coating said textured components with a layer of lacquer following said applying step.
- 3. A method as defined in claim 1, and further comprising the step of removing residual textured components from said one belt following said pressing step.
- 4. A method as defined in claim 1, and further comprising the step of forming said applied textured material into a given configuration following said applying step, whereby a textured material having a given configuration is transferred to said workpiece surface.
- 5. A method as defined in claim 31, and further comprising the steps of heating said textured material prior to said forming step and cooling said textured material following said forming step.
- 6. Apparatus for producing an embossed structure on a planer workpiece, comprising
- (a) a double belt pressing mechanism including a spaced pair of opposed endless belts, the opposed portions of said belts being driven in the same direction;
- (b) means for applying raised textured components onto the outer surface of at least one of said driven belts;
- (c) means for passing a workpiece between the opposed portions of said belts, said textured components on said one belt surface contacting a surface of the workpiece; and
- (d) means for pressing said endless belts together to press said textured components against the workpiece surface in order to transfer said components from said belt surface to the workpiece surface while the workpiece is driven between said belts.
- 7. Apparatus as defined in claim 6, wherein said applying means includes an automatic applicator device and computer means connected with said applicator device for control thereof.
- 8. Apparatus as defined in claim 7, wherein said applicator device comprises an oscillator applicator device for traversing the workpiece surface.
- 9. Apparatus as defined in claim 7, and further comprising means connected with said computer means for sensing patterns on the workpiece surface, said computer means controlling the operation of said applicator device to provide an arrangement of textured components on the workpiece surface which is synchronous with said sensed patterns.
- 10. Apparatus as defined in claim 7, wherein said applicator device includes a screen template.
- 11. Apparatus as defined in claim 10, wherein said screen template comprises a screen printing cylinder.
- 12. Apparatus as defined in claim 7, wherein said applicator device comprises a laser printer.
- 13. Apparatus as defined in claim 7, wherein said applicator device comprises a pressing roller.
