Claims
- 1. A method of defeating a copy protection process that adds pseudo sync and AGC pulses to a video signal, the method comprising the steps of:
- reducing an amplitude of at least a portion of an active video part of the video signal; and
- increasing at least an amplitude of a synchronization pulse of the video signal.
- 2. A method of defeating a copy protection process that adds pseudo sync and AGC pulses to a video signal, the method comprising the steps of:
- increasing an amplitude of a synchronization pulse portion of the video signal relative to said video signal while leaving an amplitude of said pseudo sync pulse unchanged, thus said pseudo sync pulses have a lower amplitude relative to said synchronization pulse with said increased amplitude,
- wherein said method modifies said video signal so that the negative amplitude from a blanking level of said synchronization pulse is greater than a negative amplitude from said blanking level of said pseudo sync copy protection pulses, whereas said increased synchronization pulse permits normal detection by a recorder sync separator and eliminates detection of said pseudo sync pulses, thereby enabling copying of said video signal.
- 3. An apparatus for defeating a copy protection process that adds pseudo sync and AGC pulses to a video signal, comprising:
- a synchronizing detector having a video input signal containing said pseudo sync and AGC pulses that detects the presence of synchronizing pulses within said video signal, while ignoring said pseudo sync pulses;
- an amplifier having said video input signal is controlled by an output of said synchronizing generator to increase an amplitude of said synchronization pulses of said video signal while leaving an amplitude of said pseudo sync pulse and a video portion of said video signal unchanged;
- wherein said apparatus modifies said video signal so that the negative amplitude from a blanking level of said synchronization pulse is greater than a negative amplitude from said blanking level of said pseudo sync copy protection pulses; and
- whereas said increased synchronization pulse permits normal detection by a recorder sync separator and eliminates detection of said pseudo sync pulses, thereby enabling copying of said video signal.
- 4. A method to defeat a copy protection signal containing pseudo sync and/or AGC pulses and normal synchronizing pulses comprising the step of:
- increasing the amplitude portions of said normal synchronizing pulses over an amplitude portion of said pseudo sync pulses, and
- using the synchronizing pulse detection system within a recorder used to copy said video signal to detect only the normal synchronizing pulses thus permitting normal recording of said copy protected signal.
