Claims
- 1. Method for cutting a leader of a web and/or a diagonal tail portion of the web in a paper or board machine in a dryer section of the machine, comprising the steps of:
- arranging a plurality of cylinders in the dryer section,
- arranging at least one drying wire to carry the web over said cylinders such that the web has at least one free, exposed side, and
- directing a pressurized water jet at the free side of the web to cut the web, said water jet having a pressure from about 40 bar to about 400 bar.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the pressure of the water jet is in a range from about 100 bar to about 350 bar.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing at least one cutting nozzle through which the water jet is applied to the web.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of arranging a pump to pressurize water and direct the pressurized water to said at least one cutting nozzle.
- 5. The method of claim 3, further comprising the steps of arranging a first and second cutting nozzle in parallel to one another, and arranging a first and second pump to pressurize water and direct the pressurized water to said first and second cutting nozzles, each of said first and second pumps being arranged to directed water to one or both of said first and second cutting nozzles.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of directing the water jet at an angle to the web.
- 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of initiating the cutting of the web from an edge of the web.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of initiating the cutting of the web from a location between edges of the web.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of carrying the web on one of said cylinders after the drying wire has been separated from the web, and directing the water jet at the web running on said one of said cylinders.
- 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of arranging a first and second drying group of cylinders in the dryer section, a group gap being defined between said first and second drying groups, and directing the pressurized water jet at the web in the group gap.
- 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of arranging steam-heated cylinders in an upper row and a lower row,
- arranging guide rolls between adjacent ones of said cylinders in said upper row and between adjacent ones of said cylinders in said lower row,
- arranging a first drying wire to carry the web between said guide rolls and said cylinders in said upper row, and
- arranging a second drying wire to carry the web between said guide rolls and said cylinders in said lower row, such that the web has at least one free draw between said cylinders in said upper row and said cylinders in said lower row, and
- directing the pressurized water jet at the web in the free draw.
- 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising the step of directing an air jet on a side of the web opposite from the side to which the pressurized water jet is being directed, said air jet removing particles of the paper cut from the paper web by the pressurized water jet.
- 13. The method of claim 12, further comprising the step of connecting a jet pipe, through which the air jet is directed, to a doctor beam.
- 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of arranging drying cylinders in an upper row, arranging reversing cylinders in a lower row, and directing the water jet at the web on a turning sector of one of said reversing rolls wherein the web is on an outer surface of the drying wire.
- 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of stabilizing the web by means of a guide plate, and directing the water jet at the web through an aperture in the guide plate.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the step of stabilizing the web comprises arranging nozzles in the guide plate to direct an air jet in a direction substantially parallel to the running direction of the web.
- 17. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of providing suction through a coanda plate to stabilize the web, and directing the water jet at the web through an aperture in the coanda plate.
- 18. The method of claim 3, further comprising arranging a plurality of cutting nozzles to direct water jets at the web, and arranging a pump to pressurize water and direct the pressurized water to said plurality of cutting nozzles.
