Claims
- 1. A fluid-loss control composition comprising:
- HEC;
- an oxide of an alkaline earth metal;
- a chelating agent;
- a cross-linking agent; and
- a cross-linking delay agent.
- 2. The fluid-loss composition of claim 1 wherein said oxide of an alkaline earth metal is MgO.
- 3. The fluid-loss composition of claim 1 wherein said cross-linking agent is selected from the group consisting of titanium (IV), zirconium (IV), aluminum, and antimony (V).
- 4. The fluid-loss composition of claim 1 wherein said chelating agent is EDTA.
- 5. A fluid-loss composition consisting essentially of:
- HEC;
- a member selected from the group consisting of MgO, Ca(OH).sub.2 KF, and encapsulated bases;
- sodium EDTA;
- sodium lactate; and
- a zirconium (IV) compound.
- 6. The fluid-loss composition of claim 5 further comprising at least one breaker.
- 7. The fluid-loss composition of claim 5 further comprising at leist one catalyst.
- 8. The fluid-loss composition of claim 7 where said HEC is present in said composition at a concentration of between about 80 to about 120 pounds per 1000 gallons.
- 9. The fluid-loss composition of claim 5 further comprising a brine solution.
- 10. The fluid-loss composition of claim 5 wherein said composition reaches a pH between about 12.5 and 13 during cross-linking.
- 11. A method of matrix acidizing comprising treating a region of a hydrocarbon-bearing formation with the composition of claim 5.
- 12. A method of fracture acidizing comprising treating a region of a hydrocarbon-bearing formation with the composition of claim 5.
- 13. A method of hydraulic fracturing comprising treating a region of a hydrocarbon-bearing formation with the composition of claim 5.
- 14. A method to prevent fluid loss prior to performing a completion or workover operation comprising treating a region of a hydrocarbon-bearing formation with the composition of claim 5.
- 15. A method for temporarily isolating a particular zone of a subterranean formation comprising treating said zone with the composition of claim 5.
