Claims
- 1. A composition for improving sexual fitness in an animal, which composition comprises L-arginine and a material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein said material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity is ginseng.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a material to promote vascular circulation.
- 4. The composition of claim 3, wherein the material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity is ginseng and the material to promote vascular circulation is ginkgo biloba.
- 5. The composition of claim 4, wherein said composition is a dietary supplement.
- 6. The composition of claim 5, wherein said animal is a human.
- 7. The composition of claim 6, wherein said human is a woman.
- 8. The composition of claim 7, further comprising damiana.
- 9. The composition of claim 7, comprising
(a) about 200 mg to about 600 mg L-arginine. (b) about 10 mg to about 25 mg ginseng, and (c) about 5 mg to about 15 mg ginkgo biloba.
- 10. The composition of claim 9, further comprising about 5 mg to about 15 mg damiana.
- 11. The composition of claim 9, wherein said ginseng is Korean ginseng.
- 12. The composition of claim 9, further comprising in a unit dosage an amount of antioxidant vitamins, vitamin B complex, and minerals sufficient to provide up to 100% of the percent daily values of the antioxidant vitamins, vitamin B complex, and minerals upon administering an appropriate quantity of the unit dosages to achieve a desired daily dosage.
- 13. The composition of claim 9, comprising
(a) about 300 mg to about 500 mg L-arginine, (b) about 15 mg to about 20 mg ginseng, and (c) about 5 mg to about 10 mg ginkgo biloba.
- 14. The composition of claim 7, wherein said unit dosage is a capsule or a tablet.
- 15. The composition of claim 7, wherein the unit dosage is an aqueous composition.
- 16. A method for improving sexual function in an animal, which method comprises administering a composition that comprises L-arginine and a material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity.
- 17. The method of claim 16, wherein said material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity is ginseng.
- 18. The method of claim 16, wherein said composition further comprises a material to promote vascular circulation.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein said material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity is ginseng and the material to promote vascular circulation is ginkgo biloba.
- 20. The method of claim 19, wherein said composition is a dietary supplement.
- 21. The method of claim 20, wherein said animal is a human.
- 22. The method of claim 21, wherein said human is a woman.
- 23. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement further comprises damiana.
- 24. The method of claim 22, wherein the ginseng is Korean ginseng.
- 25. The method of claim 22, wherein the unit dosage comprises
(a) about 200 mg to about 600 mg L-arginine, (b) about 10 mg to about 25 mg ginseng, (c) about 5 mg to about 10 mg ginkgo biloba, and (d) about 5 mg to about 10 mg damiana.
- 26. The method of claim 25, wherein the desired daily dosage of the dietary supplement comprises up to 100% of the percent daily values of antioxidant vitamins, vitamin B complex, and minerals.
- 27. The method of claim 25, wherein the unit dosage comprises
(a) about 300 mg to about 500 mg L-arginine, (b) about 15 mg to about 20 mg ginseng, and (c) about 5 mg to about 10 mg ginkgo biloba.
- 28. The method of claim 22, wherein the desired daily dosage of the dietary supplement comprises
(a) about 2500 mg L-arginine; (b) about 100 mg Korean ginseng; (c) about 50 mg ginkgo biloba; (d) about 50 mg damiana; (e) about 100% of the daily value of each of vitamins A, C, and E; (f) about 100% of the daily value of each of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, vitamin B-12, biotin, and pantothenic acid; and (g) about 50% of the daily value of each of calcium, iron, and zinc.
- 29. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is unit dosage in the form of a capsule or a tablet.
- 30. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered to the subject daily for at least two weeks.
- 31. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered daily to a female subject for a time sufficient to reduce discomfort during sexual intercourse.
- 32. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered daily to a female subject for a time sufficient to reduce dryness during sexual intercourse.
- 33. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered daily to a female subject for a time sufficient to improve clitoral sensation during sexual stimulation.
- 34. The method of claim 22, wherein the combination is administered daily to a female subject for a time sufficient to improve the level of sexual desire.
- 35. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered daily to a female subject for a time sufficient to improve satisfaction with overall sex life.
- 36. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered daily to a female subject for a time sufficient to improve the quality of orgasm for the subject.
- 37. The method of claim 22, wherein the dietary supplement is administered to a female subject for a period of time sufficient to improve the sexual fitness of the subject.
- 38. A method of treating sexual dysfunction in a female subject, comprising administering a sufficient quantity of unit dosages of a dietary supplement to achieve a desired daily dosage, the unit dosage comprising
(a) about 200 mg to about 600 mg L-arginine, (b) about 10 mg to about 25 mg ginseng, and (c) about 5 mg to about 10 mg ginkgo biloba
- 39. A method for preparing a composition useful for improving sexual function in an animal, which method comprises combining L-arginine with a material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity.
- 40. The method of claim 39, wherein said method further comprises combining a material to promote vascular circulation with L-arginine and the material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity.
- 41. The method of claim 40, wherein the material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity is ginseng and the material to promote vascular circulation is ginkgo biloba.
- 42. The method of claim 39, wherein the animal is a human.
- 43. An article of manufacture that comprises
(a) a composition of L-arginine and a material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity, and (b) labelling instructions for administering the composition to an animal over time at a rate sufficient to improve sexual function in the animal.
- 44. The article of manufacture of claim 43, wherein (a) further comprises a material to promote vascular circulation.
- 45. The article of manufacture of claim 44, wherein the material for increasing nitric oxide synthase activity is ginseng and the material to promote vascular circulation is ginkgo biloba.
- 46. The article of manufacture of claim 43, wherein the animal is a human.
