- 1. A method of operating a boiling-water reactor which is unstable as a result of local oscillations of a physical variable, the method which comprises the following steps:
- a) measuring local oscillations of a physical variable in a plurality of regions of the reactor core, and associating local measured values with the respective regions;
- b) if amplitudes of extremes of the measured values of the oscillating physical variable exceed a predefined noise limit, monitoring the measured values and selecting from among a hierarchy of alarm stages a highest alarm stage as a current alarm stage whose monitoring criterion is satisfied by the measured values of a predefined minimum number of the regions; and
- c) no earlier than at a point in time which is several oscillations after a point in time when the noise limit has been exceeded, initiating a stabilization strategy selected from
- i) a low-ranking alarm stage stabilization strategy which includes blocking a withdrawal of absorber elements from the reactor core and preventing an operational increase in reactor power; and
- ii) at least one higher-ranking alarm stage stabilization strategy which includes inserting absorber elements into the reactor core and effecting an operational reduction in the reactor power.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the at least one higher-ranking alarm stage stabilization strategy includes a first higher-ranking alarm stage stabilization strategy in which a plurality of control rods are slowly moved into the reactor core, and a second higher-ranking alarm stage stabilization strategy in which a plurality of absorber elements are rapidly inserted into the reactor core.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, which further comprises defining a highest-ranking alarm stage stabilization strategy in which the reactor power is reduced to zero as rapidly as possible.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, which comprises defining the monitoring criterion as a point in time or parameters for determining the point in time, until which a normal operation of the reactor is continued before a stabilization strategy is initiated in correspondence with a current alarm stage.
- 5. The method according to claim 1, which comprises defining a critical frequency band for a frequency of the oscillations, and, if the amplitude values lie above the noise limit, rendering the monitoring criterion effective only as long as the detected amplitude values correspond to a frequency within the critical frequency band.
- 6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the critical frequency band is from 0.3 to 0.7 Hz.
- 7. The method according to claim 5, which comprises analyzing the local measured values at a sampling frequency above approximately 20 Hz, with regard to the occurrence of oscillations at the amplitude values and with regard to the satisfying of the monitoring criteria.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, which comprises analyzing the local measured values at a sampling frequency above approximately 50 Hz.
- 9. The method according to claim 5, which comprises determining the rate of increase of the amplitudes from the local measured values, and defining the monitoring criteria in dependence on the detected rate of increase.
- 10. The method according to claim 9, which comprises, for each alarm stage, determining a threshold value for the detected amplitude values from the rate of increase, and initiating the stabilization strategy corresponding to the current alarm stage only when the threshold value is exceeded.
- 11. The method according to claim 10, which comprises, for each alarm stage, determining a threshold value for the rate of increase of the detected amplitudes, and selecting and initiating the stabilization strategy corresponding to the current alarm stage when the threshold value is exceeded.
- 12. The method according to claim 1, which comprises performing step a) and step b) in a device having a plurality of systems, operating the systems redundantly and registering in each system the local measured values of a plurality of regions distributed over an entire reactor core and forming a current alarm stage assigned to the respective region, and which further comprises selecting one alarm stage from among the current alarm stages of the individual systems, and initiating, in step c), the stabilization strategy belonging to the selected alarm stage.
- 13. The method according to claim 1, which further comprises testing whether each local measured value assumes an extreme value in equidistant time intervals, and utilizing the local measured value in selecting the local alarm stage only as long as the local measured value exhibits the extreme values in equidistant time intervals.
