Claims
- 1. A wireless telecommunication system to allow individual subscribers in an area of service telecommunications access to a telecommunications network comprising:
- at least one subscriber interface,
- the at least one subscriber interface connected to one or more items of customer premise equipment, the customer premise equipment capable of transmitting and/or receiving voice and/or data signals;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data signals from the customer premise equipment into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a voice or data signal;
- a base station interface,
- the base station interface connecting the wireless telecommunication system to the telecommunication network;
- the base station interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data information from the telecommunication network into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the base station interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a form suitable for transmission over the telecommunication network;
- a maximum of M wireless base station-to-base station communication channels, a maximum of N subscriber-to-base station communication channels, where M is greater than or equal to N;
- a number of K wireless base station-to-subscriber communication channels, a number of L base station-to-subscriber communication channels that are removed from a pool of available communication channels, where K is greater than or equal to L, and where K is less than or equal to M;
- the K and L communication channels are assigned to one subscriber interface;
- the K and L communication channels are available for use by the plurality of customer premise equipment.
- 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the K and L communication channels are used for voice service.
- 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the K and L channels are used for data service.
- 4. The system of claim 1, wherein the K and L channels are used for multimedia service.
- 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the K and L channels are used for video service.
- 6. The system of claim 1, wherein a subpool of the K and L channels are concatenated to form a high rate hyperchannel.
- 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the K and L channels are used for a combination of voice, data, multimedia or video service simultaneously.
- 8. The system of claim 1, wherein the K and L channels are increased or decreased dynamically without interruption of service.
- 9. The system of claim 1, wherein the number of the plurality of customer premise equipment exceeds the number of K channels.
- 10. The system of claim 1, wherein the number of K channels assigned to a subscriber station is chosen so as to provide a specified quality of service as measured by a ratio of a number of blocked subscriber communications versus a number of subscriber communications attempted.
- 11. The system of claim 1, wherein the number of K channels assigned to a subscriber station can be changed dynamically depending on the channel usage and/or environmental conditions.
- 12. The system of claim 1, wherein the subscriber interface services a high occupancy residential or business unit.
- 13. A wireless telecommunication system to allow individual subscribers in an area of service telecommunications access to a telecommunications network comprising:
- at least one subscriber interface,
- the at least one subscriber interface connected to one or more items of customer premise equipment, the customer premise equipment capable of transmitting and/or receiving voice and/or data signals;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data signals from the customer premises equipment into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a voice or data signal;
- a base station interface,
- the base station interface connecting the wireless telecommunication system to the telecommunication network;
- the base station interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data information from the telecommunication network into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the base station interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a form suitable for transmission over the telecommunication network;
- a plurality of wireless communication channels, a first sub-pool of the wireless communication channels being used for communication between the base station interface and the plurality of subscriber interfaces, a second sub-pool of wireless communication channels being used for communication between the base station interface and at least one enhanced subscriber interface; and
- at least one enhanced subscriber interface;
- the enhanced subscriber interface being capable of handling the second sub-pool of communication channels;
- the enhanced subscriber interface further being capable of handling a plurality of active customer premise equipment;
- wherein the number of the plurality of customer premise equipment exceeds the number of channels in the second sub-pool.
- 14. A wireless telecommunication system to allow individual subscribers in an area of service telecommunications access to a telecommunications network comprising:
- at least one subscriber interface,
- the at least one subscriber interface connected to one or more items of customer premise equipment, the customer premise equipment capable of transmitting and/or receiving voice and/or data signals;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data signals from the customer premises equipment into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a voice or data signal;
- a base station interface,
- the base station interface connecting the wireless telecommunication system to the telecommunication network,
- the base station interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data information from the telecommunication network into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the base station interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a form suitable for transmission over the telecommunication network;
- a plurality of wireless communication channels, a first sub-pool of the wireless communication channels being used for communication between the base station interface and the plurality of subscriber interfaces, a second sub-pool of wireless communication channels being used for communication between the base station interface and at least one enhanced subscriber interface; and
- at least one enhanced subscriber interface;
- the enhanced subscriber interface being capable of handling the second sub-pool of communication channels;
- the enhanced subscriber interface further being capable of handling a plurality of active customer premise equipment;
- wherein the number of channels in the second sub-pool is chosen so as to provide a specified quality of service as measured by a ratio of a number of blocked subscriber communications versus a number of subscriber communications attempted.
- 15. A wireless telecommunication system to allow individual subscribers in an area of service telecommunications access to a telecommunications network comprising:
- at least one subscriber interface,
- the at least one subscriber interface connected to one or more items of customer premise equipment, the customer premise equipment capable of transmitting and/or receiving voice and/or data signals;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data signals from the customer premises equipment into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the at least one subscriber interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a voice or data signal;
- a base station interface,
- the base station interface connecting the wireless telecommunication system to the telecommunication network;
- the base station interface having a modulator for modulating voice and/or data information from the telecommunication network into a form suitable for transmission over a wireless communication channel;
- the base station interface having a demodulator for demodulating a signal received over a wireless communication channel into a form suitable for transmission over the telecommunication network,
- a plurality of wireless communication channels, a first sub-pool of the wireless communication channels being used for communication between the base station interface and the plurality of subscriber interfaces, a second sub-pool of wireless communication channels being used for communication between the base station interface and at least one enhanced subscriber interface; and
- at least one enhanced subscriber interface;
- the enhanced subscriber interface being capable of handling the second sub-pool of communication channels;
- the enhanced subscriber interface further being capable of handling a plurality of active customer premise equipment;
- wherein the number of channels in the second sub-pool can be changed dynamically depending on the channel usage and/or environmental conditions.
