Claims
- 1. A system for characterizing printer color comprising:
a color patch identification system receiving image data and generating color patch data; and a color patch characterization system receiving the color patch data and generating color density data.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises an edge detection system receiving the image data and generating edge data.
- 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises a uniformity correction system receiving dark field data and white field data and generating correction factor data.
- 4. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises a patch size system providing patch number data, and the color patch identification system generates color patch data by dividing the image data according to the patch number data.
- 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises an image rotation system receiving the image data and generating image rotation data.
- 6. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises a density calculation system receiving the color patch data and generating color density data for each color patch.
- 7. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises a noise reduction system receiving the color patch data and deleting border pixel data from the color patch data.
- 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises a reference cartridge system receiving the image data and generating reference cartridge data.
- 9. The system of claim 1 wherein the color patch identification system further comprises a cartridge data system receiving the image data and storing cartridge characterization data.
- 10. A system for calibrating a digital camera, comprising:
a test image system generating test color density image data from a calibrated test color density image using the digital camera; and a camera calibration system receiving the test color density image data and the calibrated test color density image data and generating camera calibration data.
- 11. The system of claim 10 further comprising a filter standard system providing filter standard data, wherein the camera calibration system uses the filter standard data to generate the camera calibration data.
- 12. The system of claim 11 wherein the filter standard system receives the filter standard data from the calibrated test color density image.
- 13. The system of claim 10 further comprising a color density measurement system receiving the test color density image data and generating color density data.
- 14. The system of claim 10 wherein the camera calibration system further comprises a camera filter correction system receiving the test colors density image data and filter standard data and generating the camera calibration data.
- 15. The system of claim 10 further comprising a camera data system receiving the camera calibration data and camera identification data and storing the camera calibration data with the camera identification data.
- 16. The system of claim 10 wherein the camera calibration system further comprises a camera data system storing the camera calibration data and generating notification data if the camera needs to be recalibrated.
- 17. A method for characterizing color comprising:
generating two or more patches of color data; generating color density data for each patch; and storing the color density data for use in generating a correction factor.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein generating two or more patches of color data comprises generating a set of two or more colors for each of three color components.
- 19. The method of claim 17 wherein generating color density data for each patch further comprises applying a lighting uniformity factor to the two or more patches of color data.
- 20. The method of claim 17 wherein generating color density data for each patch further comprises removing edge pixels to reduce noise.
- 21. The method of claim 17 wherein generating color density data for each patch further comprises rotating the two or more patches of color data.
- 22. The method of claim 17 wherein generating the two or more patches of color data further comprises:
detecting a plurality of edges of the patches of color data; generating edge data; and determining the coordinates of each patch of color data using the edge data and patch size data.
- 23. A process for producing an ink cartridge with color correction data, the process comprising the acts of:
using the ink cartridge to produce a test patch; comparing the test patch to known color data; producing a set of mapped color density data based on the comparison of the test patch to the known color data; storing data corresponding to the set of mapped color density data.
- 24. The process of claim 23 wherein the data corresponding to the mapped color density data is stored in the ink cartridge.
- 25. The process of claim 23 wherein producing the set of mapped color density data based on the comparison of the test patch to the known color data comprises producing a set of reference color density data and a set of specimen color density data.
- 26. A process for calibrating a camera to produce color corrected images, the process comprising the acts of:
generating test color density image data from a calibrated test color density image; generating camera calibration data from the test color density image data; and storing the camera calibration data.
- 27. The process of claim 26 wherein the camera calibration data is stored in the camera.
- 28. The process of claim 26 wherein the camera calibration data is stored on a hard disk.
