Claims
- 1. In the method of making a composite hologram of a large number of individual lenticular holograms, said holograms having narrow widths and a common height and joined together at their sides into a drum-like shape having a radius "R" and a center axis, wherein an apparent image of a three-dimensional object is reconstructed within said drum shape by illuminating the hologram from beneath by a white light source, said source having a maximum width "W" and positioned substantially on said center axis, the improvement wherein: the spacing of the adjacent lenticular hologram elements is made to be substantially within a range of .sqroot..lambda.R as an upper limit and .lambda.R/W as a lower limit, wherein ".lambda." is any wavelength of visible light, thereby to minimize the effect and visibility of undesirable vertical liens that exist superimposed over the image.
- 2. The improved method according to claim 1 wherein the spacing of adjacent individual lenticular hologram elements is substantially equal to .sqroot..lambda.R.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the shape and position of the vertical line focus are further selected so as to cause the horizontal aspect of an image reconstructed from this hologram to be located in a plane which is at a horizontal distance from the hologram surface equal to that of the reconstruction source.
- 4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the width of adjacent hologram elements is substantially equal to said spacing.
- 5. A composite hologram, comprising a plurality of elongated lenticular holograms, the width of each lenticular hologram being less than about one millimeter, each hologram overlapping an adjacent hologram by no more than 50% of its width.
