- 6. A method for controlling a data recording device, wherein said data recording device includes a data recording medium having a plurality of recording positions, a head positioning element for positioning a read/write head on a target recording position on said data recording medium and a control element for supplying positioning signals to said head positioning element, wherein a plurality of control operation modes are utilized to perform a processing operation, which is a write operation or a read operation, during a positioning operation for positioning said read/write head from a start position to said target recording position, said method comprising:determining whether one of said plurality of control operation modes should be started; discriminating that said processing operation is either said write operation or said read operation, in response to determining that one of said plurality of control operation modes should be started; determining whether a distance between a start position of said read/write head and a target recording position is equal to or shorter than a predetermined distance, in response to discriminating that said processing operation comprises said write operation; and performing a compensation based upon an initial value compensation method, in response to determining that said distance between said start position of said read/write head and said target recording position is equal to or less than said predetermined distance, wherein said control element generates said positioning signals based upon U(n)=kXc(n) (wherein U(n) is said positioning signal, n is a sampling time during said control operation mode, k is a vector, and Xc is state variables at said sampling time n used by said control element for generating said positioning signal); and performs said compensation based upon said initial value compensation method by replacing a value Xc(0) at a sampling time (0), which is the starting time of said one control operation mode, by Xc(0)′=KXp(0) (wherein K is a predetermined matrix and Xp(0) is state variables of said head positioning element).
- 7. The method according to claim 6, wherein said plurality of control operation modes include a seek mode for starting the movement of said read/write head from said start position, and a settling mode for performing when said distance between a start position of said read/write head and said target recording position is equal to a distance L1, and said predetermined distance is equal to or shorter than said distance L1.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein said one control operation mode of said write operation is performed without performing said compensation based upon said initial value compensation method in response to that said distance between said start position of said read/write head and said target recording position is longer than said predetermined distance.
