- 4. The system of claim 1, wherein when a book is placed in the book holder, the positions of the indicators are read to identify the book.
- 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the book holder accepts a cartridge, the cartridge including content associated with a plurality of books.
- 6. The system of claim 1, wherein the book holder selectively displays the content such that when pages of the book are in a first open position, content associated with a first page is displayed.
- 7. A system for displaying audio with text, comprising:
a book holder system; a book having a binding defining a first plurality of locations and a second plurality of locations; wherein the first plurality of locations is used to identify the book when placed in the book holder.
- 8. The system of claim 7, wherein the book holder system includes a base and a removable cartridge, wherein the cartridge includes content associated with a plurality of books.
- 9. The system of claim 7, wherein the binding is a spiral binding passing through holes in the book and wherein the first plurality of locations comprises the bottom three spaces between the holes of the spiral binding.
- 10. The system of claim 7, wherein the second plurality of positions is equal to the number of open positions of the book.
- 11. A system for displaying audio with text, comprising:
a book and a book holder designed to receive the book, the book having a plurality of pages; wherein at least some of the pages of the book each include a first hole, the first holes all being substantially the same size; wherein at least some of the pages of the book each include a second hole, wherein the second holes all differ in size from one another.
- 12. The system of claim 11, wherein when the plurality of pages of the book are overlaid, the first holes are aligned with one another.
- 13. The system of claim 11, wherein when the plurality of pages of the book are overlaid, the second holes are aligned with one another, and wherein a different amount of electromagnetic energy passes through the holes depending on how many pages are overlaid.
- 14. The system of 13, further comprising first and second detectors in the book holder, the first detector being positioned to detect electromagnetic energy passing through the first holes, the second detector being positioned to detect electromagnetic energy passing through the second holes.
- 15. The system of claim 13, wherein the electromagnetic energy is ambient light.
- 16. The system of claim 11, further comprising means for comparing the relative intensity of the electromagnetic energy passing through first holes with the energy passing through the second holes.
- 17. A system for displaying audio with text, comprising:
a book holder designed to receive a book, the book having a plurality of pages; electrical components attached to at least some of the pages, the electrical components of different pages being electrically connected in parallel when the different pages are overlaid to form a circuit; wherein when a first set of the pages are overlaid, an electrical characteristic assumes a first value at a point in the circuit; and wherein when a second set of the pages are overlaid, the electrical characteristic assumes a second value at the point in the circuit.
- 18. The system of claim 17, wherein the electrical characteristic is a voltage value.
- 19. The system of claim 18, wherein the electrical components are resistors.
- 20. The system of claim 17, wherein the electrical characteristic is the duration of a voltage pulse width.
- 21. The system of claim 20, wherein the electrical components are capacitors.
- 22. The system of claim 20, wherein the pulse width is compared to a reference pulse width.
- 23. The system of claim 17, wherein the electrical components are inductors.
- 24. A system for displaying audio with text, comprising:
a book holder designed to receive a book, the book having a plurality of pages; a conductive material placed on each page of the plurality of pages; a resistive material placed on each page of the plurality of pages; wherein the conductive material and the resistive material on each page of the plurality forms a circuit when the pages of the plurality are overlaid such that the resistive material of each page is in parallel with the resistive material of the other pages of the plurality.
- 25. The system of claim 24, wherein the circuit includes a node, and wherein the measured voltage at the node indicates which page of the plurality is currently being viewed by a user.
- 26. The system of claim 24, wherein the circuit includes components located in the book holder.
- 27. A system for displaying audio with text, comprising:
a book holder designed to receive a book, the book having a plurality of pages; magnetic material attached to each of the plurality of pages such that when pages of the plurality are overlaid, the strength of a resulting magnetic field increases; wherein the book holder includes a magnetic field sensor positioned to detect the resulting magnetic field.
- 28. The system of claim 27, wherein the page of the book being viewed by a user is indicated by the relative strength of the resulting magnetic field.
- 29. A system for displaying audio with text, comprising:
a book holder designed to receive a book, the book having a plurality of pages, the book holder including an electromagnetic energy transceiver; a first antenna on a first page of the book; a second antenna on a second page of the book; wherein when the book is in a first open position, the first antenna reflects a first amount of electromagnetic energy emitted from the transceiver; wherein when the book is in a second open position, the first page and second page are overlaid and the first and second antennae reflect a second amount of electromagnetic energy from the transceiver.
- 30. The system of claim 29, wherein the system determines what page of the book is currently being viewed depending on the amount of energy reflected back to the transceiver.
