Claims
- 1. A system for providing information to a clinician comprising:
a first central computer attached to a network; a second central computer attached, via a communication link, to the first central computer at least partially located within a health care facility; a terminal device associated with the clinician and operably attached to the network, the terminal device comprising a visual display; a request generated by the terminal device and received by the first central computer and the second central computer; a response message generated by the second central computer in response to the request generated by the terminal device; a response message generated by the first central computer and comprising the response message provided by the second central computer and additional data added by the first central computer; and, wherein the response message generated by the first central computer is provided in a humanly readable format on the visual display.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the first central computer validates the request generated by the terminal device.
- 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the communication link is dedicated to communications between the first central computer and the second central computer.
- 4. The system of claim 1, said terminal device further comprising a browser responsive to the response message generated by the first central computer.
- 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the additional data is stored within a database controlled by the first central computer.
- 6. The system of claim 1 wherein the terminal device receives a second response message generated by the second central computer in response to a second request generated by the terminal device, wherein the second response message and the second request are routed through the first central computer.
- 7. The system of claim 6 wherein the second response message substantially passes through the first central computer.
- 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the second central computer provides a signal to the first central computer to add the additional data to the response message generated by the second central computer.
- 9. The system of claim 8, said signal comprising a format of the response message provided by the second central computer.
- 10. A system for controlling communications between a second central computer and a terminal device comprising:
a first central computer response message comprising additional data added by a first central computer in response to a format indicator from the second central computer, the first central computer request message generated by an application in response to a terminal device request message received from the terminal device, the first central computer request message received by the second central computer; a first central computer response message generated by the application in response to a second central computer response message generated by the second central computer in response to the first central computer request message; and, said additional data relating to a medical device attached to a patient.
- 11. The system of claim 10 wherein the application is loaded on a first central computer operably connected between the second central computer and the terminal device.
- 12. The system of claim 10 wherein the terminal device request message received from the terminal device is validated before the first central computer request message is generated.
- 13. The system of claim 10 wherein the first central computer request message generated by the application is transmitted to the second central computer over a dedicated communication link between a first central computer and the second central computer.
- 14. The system of claim 10 wherein the terminal device request message is generated by a browser within the terminal device.
- 15. The system of claim 11 wherein the additional data is stored within a database controlled by the first central computer.
- 16. The system of claim 14 wherein at least a portion of the additional data within the database is received from the second computer.
- 17. The system of claim 10 further comprising a second response message received by the terminal device and generated by the second central computer in response to a second request generated by the terminal device, said second response message and the second request being routed through a first central computer operably connected between the terminal device and the second central computer.
- 18. The system of claim 10 wherein the second response message substantially passes through a first central computer operably connected between the second central computer and the terminal device.
- 19. The system of claim 10, said format indicator comprising a format of the second central computer response message generated by the second central computer.
- 20. The system of claim 10, wherein the terminal device request message is transmitted over a network at least partially located within a health care facility.
- 21. A system comprising:
a first central computer attached to a network; a second central computer attached, via a communication link; a terminal device operably attached to the network and comprising a visual display; a request generated by the terminal device and received by the first central computer and the second central computer; a response message generated by the second central computer in response to the request generated by the terminal device; a response message generated by the first central computer and comprising the response message provided by the second central computer and additional data added by the first central computer comprising prescription comparison results or infusion pump monitoring data; and, wherein the response message generated by the first central computer is provided in a humanly readable format on the visual display.
- 22. The system of claim 21 wherein the first central computer validates the request generated by the terminal device.
- 23. The system of claim 21 wherein the terminal device receives a second response message generated by the second central computer in response to a second request generated by the terminal device, wherein the second response message and the second request are routed through the first central computer.
- 24. A system for controlling communications between a second central computer and a terminal device comprising:
a first central computer request message generated by an application in response to a terminal device request message received from the terminal device, the first central computer request message received by the second central computer; a first central computer response message generated by the application in response to a second central computer response message generated by the second central computer in response to the first central computer request message; said first central computer response message comprising additional data added by the first central computer in response to an indicator from the second central computer, said additional data relating to prescription comparison results or infusion pump monitoring data.
- 25. The system of claim 24 wherein said first central computer presents a screen of data generated in response to a parameter sent by a second central computer.
