- wherein said hinge includes an elongated housing within which an elongated spring and a first rotatable member are located, said spring having one of its ends engaged with said first rotatable member.
- 2. The security seal system of claim 1 wherein said first rotatable member is rotatable to and from a plurality of different positions within said housing, each of said different positions resulting in a different tension being applied to said spring, whereby the tension on said spring is adjustable as a function of the position of said first rotatable member.
- 3. The security seal of claim 1 wherein said flap includes at least one elongated aperture (220) defined therein.
- 4. A security seal system attached to a door within a door frame, the door having exterior, interior, and bottom sides, the door being located proximate a floor, the security seal system comprising:
- a door engaging member affixed to the interior side of the door;
- a security flap pivotally connected to said door engaging member;
- an actuator affixed to the door frame;
- said security flap including an actuator engaging portion for contacting said actuator when the door is being closed thereby causing said security flap to move downward toward the floor so as to form a security seal adjacent the bottom side of the door when the door is in a secured closed position; and
- a flap locking member affixed to the door frame for maintaining said security flap in said secured closed position while the door remains closed, said flap locking member extending from the door frame over top of said security flap.
- 5. A security seal system attached to a door within a door frame, the door having exterior, interior, and bottom sides, the door being located proximate a floor, the security seal system comprising:
- a door engaging member affixed to the interior side of the door;
- an elongated security member pivotally connected to said door engaging member;
- an actuator affixed to the door frame;
- said security member including an actuator engaging surface for contacting said actuator when the door is being closed thereby causing said security member to move downward toward the floor so as to form a security seal adjacent the bottom of the door when the door is in a secured closed position; and
- a recess defined in the door frame for receiving a portion of said elongated security member so as to prevent said security member from being moved from its closed position when the door is closed.
- 6. The security seal system of claim 5 wherein said portion of said flap received in said recess includes a projection extending from a main body of said flap.
- 7. A security seal system attached to a door within a door frame, the door having exterior, interior, and bottom sides, the door being located proximate a floor, the security seal system comprising:
- a door engaging member affixed to the interior side of the door;
- an elongated security member pivotally connected to said door engaging member;
- an actuator affixed to one of the door frame and the floor, said actuator including an upper surface and a lower surface, with said lower surface being disposed at least partially between said floor and said upper surface;
- said security member including an actuator engaging portion for contacting said upper surface of said actuator when the door is being closed thereby causing said security flap to move downward away from the bottom of the door so as to form a security seal proximate the bottom side of the door when the door is in a secured closed position; and wherein said security member includes at least one elongated aperture defined therein.
- 8. The security seal system of claim 7, wherein a lower surface of said security member forms at least a portion of said actuator engaging portion.
- 9. The security seal system of claim 7, wherein said security member is an elongated flap, and is gravity actuated so that gravity causes said flap to move downward toward the floor when the door is being closed and the actuator engaging portion slides along the upper surface of said actuator.
- 10. The security seal system of claim 7, wherein said actuator includes a member affixed to the floor so that when the door is being closed, said engaging portion of said security member slides over top of and contacting said upper surface of said actuator thereby resulting in said security member moving downward away from the bottom side of the door toward the secured closed position.
- 11. The security seal system of claim 7, further comprising means for adjusting the vertical position of the upper surface of said actuator which contacts said engaging portion of said security member, relative to the floor.
- 12. The security seal system of claim 7, wherein said actuator is affixed to an interior face of the door frame.
- 13. The security seal system of claim 7, wherein said actuator is located proximate a hinge side of the door and distant from a lock side of the door.
- 14. A security seal system attached to a door and corresponding door frame, the door having exterior, interior, and bottom sides, the security seal system comprising:
- an elongated housing affixed to the interior side of the door proximate the bottom side of the door;
- an elongated biasing member located within said elongated housing, said elongated biasing member for providing a biasing force tending to bias an elongated security member upward toward a non-secure position;
- said elongated security member moveable connected to said elongated housing, said security member for moving downward relative to said elongated housing and away from the non-secure position and toward the floor when the door is closed so as to form a security seal proximate the bottom side of the door when the door is in a closed position;
- a cam affixed to said door frame interior of a stop of said door frame;
- a cam engaging portion for contacting said cam when the door is being closed thereby causing said security member to move downward, against said biasing force provided by said elongated biasing member, toward a floor adjacent the bottom side of the door so as to form a security seal proximate the bottom side of the door when the door is in a closed position; and
- wherein said member includes at least one elongated aperture defined therein.
- 15. The security seal system of claim 14, wherein said elongated biasing member is an elongated spring located within said elongated housing, and said spring includes means for adjusting the biasing force thereof.
- 16. The security seal system of claim 15, further comprising an insert having a plurality of flexible bristles.
- 17. The security seal system of claim 14, wherein said cam is affixed to the frame so that it protrudes along a plane of a rabbet interior of said stop.
- 18. A security seal system including a door having an exterior side, an interior side, and a bottom side, and a door frame including an exterior face, an interior face, a stop, and an interior rabbet, the security seal system comprising:
- a door engaging member including an elongated housing affixed to the interior side of the door;
- an elongated biasing member disposed within said housing, said elongated biasing member for providing a biasing force biasing an elongated security member downward toward a floor;
- said security member moveably mounted, and connected to said door engaging member;
- a cam affixed to the interior face (113) of the door frame; and
- said security member including cam actuator portion contacting said cam when the door is being closed thereby causing said security member to move downward, against said biasing force provided by said biasing member, toward the floor adjacent the bottom side of the door so as to form a security seal adjacent the bottom side of the door when the door is in a secured closed position.
