Claims
- 1. A method for remotely printing a document via a networked destination device comprising the steps of:
storing said document in a data center; determining a networked destination device for said document, said networked destination device having associated identifying information; encrypting said document and storing said encrypted document in a location on said network; sending an associated key to decrypt said encrypted document from said data center to a mobile device; sending a pointer indicating said location of said stored encrypted document on said network to said networked destination device based on said identifying information; sending said associated key from said mobile device to said networked destination device; retrieving said stored encrypted document from said network using said pointer; decrypting said document using said associated key at said networked destination device; and printing said decrypted document.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:
sending a confirmation of said printing to at least one of said mobile device and said data center.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of storing said document in a data center further comprises storing a plurality of documents in said data center, and said method further comprises:
selecting at least one of said plurality of documents for printing utilizing said mobile device.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of retrieving said encrypted document from said network further comprises:
storing said encrypted document in said networked destination device.
- 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein if said associated key is not sent to said networked destination device within a predetermined period of time after retrieval of said encrypted document, said method further comprises:
deleting said encrypted document from said networked destination device.
- 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of determining further comprises:
establishing a communication between said mobile device and said networked destination device; sending said identifying information from said networked destination device to said mobile device; and sending said identifying information from said mobile device to said data center.
- 7. The method according to claim 6, wherein said communication is a wireless communication.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein said wireless communication is an infrared communication.
- 9. The method according to claim 7, wherein said wireless communication is a radio frequency communication.
- 10. The method according to claim 9, wherein said radio frequency communication is established automatically.
- 11. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of determining further comprises:
manually inputting said identifying information to said mobile device; and sending said identifying information from said mobile device to said data center.
- 12. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of sending said associated key from said mobile device to said networked destination device further comprises:
sending said associated key from said mobile device to said networked destination device via a wireless communication.
- 13. The method according to claim 12, wherein said wireless communication is an infrared communication.
- 14. The method according to claim 12, wherein said wireless communication is a radio frequency communication.
- 15. The method according to claim 14, wherein said radio frequency communication is established automatically.
- 16. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of sending said associated key from said mobile device to said networked destination device further comprises:
manually inputting said associated key to said networked device.
- 17. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of encrypting said document further comprises:
providing an associated identifier for said encrypted document, said associated identifier being sent to said mobile device with said key and to said networked destination device with said pointer, said step of sending said associated key from said mobile device further comprising:
sending said associated identifier along with said associated key from said mobile device to said networked destination device, wherein said networked destination device uses said associated identifier to identify said pointer to retrieve said encrypted document from said network.
- 18. The method according to claim 1, wherein said mobile device is a personal data assistant.
- 19. The method according to claim 1, wherein said mobile device is a cell phone.
- 20. The method according to claim 1, wherein said mobile device is a pager.
- 21. The method according to claim 1, wherein said mobile device is a laptop computer.
- 22. The method according to claim 1, wherein said networked destination device is a printer.
- 23. The method according to claim 22, wherein said associated identifying information includes an address of said printer.
- 24. The method according to claim 1, wherein said step of sending said pointer further comprises:
sending said pointer from said data center to said mobile device; and sending said pointer from said mobile device to said networked destination device with said key.
- 25. A method for printing a document using a networked printer comprising the steps of:
selecting a printer attached to said network; selecting a document for printing by said selected printer, said document being stored on a server in a network; encrypting said selected document and storing said encrypted document in a location on said network; sending a key for decrypting said encrypted document from said data center to a mobile device; sending a pointer indicating said location of said stored encrypted document on said network to said selected printer; sending said key from said mobile device to said selected printer via a wireless communication when said mobile device is physically near said selected printer; retrieving said stored encrypted document from said network using said pointer; decrypting said document using said key at said printer; and printing said decrypted document.
- 26. The method according to claim 25, wherein said step of encrypting said selected document further comprises:
providing an associated identifier for said encrypted document, said associated identifier being sent to said mobile device with said key and to said selected printer with said encrypted document, said step of sending said key from said mobile device further comprising:
sending said associated identifier along with said key from said mobile device to said selected printer, wherein said selected printer uses said associated identifier to identify said pointer to retrieve said encrypted document from said network.
- 27. The method according to claim 25, wherein said mobile device is a personal data assistant.
- 28. The method according to claim 25, wherein said step of selecting a document further comprises:
selecting a document using said mobile device.
- 29. A system for remotely printing a document comprising:
a data center to store said document, said data center encrypting said document and storing said encrypted document in a location on a network; a key to decrypt said encrypted document; a mobile device to communicate wirelessly with said data center, said data center sending said key to said mobile device; a printing device coupled to said network; and a pointer to indicate said location of said encrypted document in said network, wherein said pointer is sent to said printing device, said printing device retrieves said encrypted document from said network using said pointer, said mobile device sends said key to said printing device, and said printing device decrypts said encrypted document using said key and prints said document.
- 30. The system according to claim 29, wherein said mobile device is a personal data assistant.
- 31. The system according to claim 29, wherein said mobile device is a pager.
- 32. The system according to claim 29, wherein said mobile device is a cell phone.
- 33. The system according to claim 29, wherein said mobile device is a laptop computer.
- 34. The system according to claim 29, wherein said mobile device sends said key to said printing device via a wireless communication.
- 35. The system according to claim 34, wherein said wireless communication is an infrared communication.
- 36. The system according to claim 34, wherein said wireless communication is a radio frequency communication.
- 37. The system according to claim 36, wherein said radio frequency communication is established automatically.
- 38. The system according to claim 34, wherein said wireless communication is a manual communication.
- 39. The system according to claim 29, further comprising:
a document identifier, said document identifier being sent to said printing device with said pointer and to said mobile device with said key, wherein said mobile device sends said key and said document identifier to said printing device and said printing device uses said document identifier to identify said encrypted document to be decrypted with said key.
- 40. The system according to claim 29, wherein said data center sends said pointer to said mobile device with key, and said mobile device sends said pointer and said key to said printing device.
- 41. The system according to claim 29, wherein said document is selected from a plurality of documents stored in said data center.
- 42. The system according to claim 41, wherein said document is selected using said mobile device.
